Sitting next to coach at a tournament in Fort Worth. What's left of his gray hair is combed nicely, can't see ankles, has nice sneakers. His assistants left shoe is untied.

He was telling a story about how Kentucky would line up at mid court and stare you down as they strectched before Coach Brown had to "stretch" himself along the baseline as the two teams ran the court as they started warmups...

Anyways, he's obviously not a long term solution, but if the job were to open up in the coming months to a year or so out...could A&M "pony" up a little cash to pull him about 190 miles south of SMU to attempt to steady the ship?

Besides Larry is tight with Turgeon.

They have BMPs that want to spend more than our BMAs right now.

No thanks...72 years old...just looking for a few dollars before retiring.

We'd be nuts not to take Larry Brown if we needed a coach. Even now Larry Brown is one of the best basketball minds and coaches. He has single handly jump started SMU hoops.

I was thinking that I missed the jump starting of the SMU program because I honestly I hadn't heard anything about them. So, I checked out their schedule. 4 losses for them with a weak non-conference schedule. The only notable win is over Utah, but Utah stinks this year with losses to among others Sacramento St. and CSU-Northridge.

SMU has bad losses to Arkansas-Little Rock and Wagner.

I'll pass on Brown as would pretty much any other school.

He took over a pretty awful team. He's playing this season with one senior and two juniors, having lost their top scorer and rebounder and their point guard.

He's recruiting well and with 4 more wins and he'll better SMU's win total from last year when they finished with an RPI of 217 with losses to #214, 230, 250, and 320.

That's kind of the point. Well, not to sign a 72 year old but he's an established guy who is known across the country and has won at both in the NCAA and NBA. He's obviously not opposed to Texas and SMU's not exactly a member of basketball's aristocracy. Unlike most "name" coaches, he's possibly attainable for A&M if we spend a little money.

There were college coaches all over the gym tonight, but the fans, coaches, and the kids playing on the floor, even the squad from Long Beach- were looking at Larry Brown and his SMU jacket. I don't think I'd mind seeing him in maroon for 3 or 4 years (if the job comes open)

Larry Brown would probably make an impact on the program in a short period of time, but the top brass would never approve of that move, IMO.
