Lammers' time
Alamo Heights center Ben Lammers said he didn't think he'd get to play much this season because he's just a sophomore.
Which is absurd, because he's a 6-foot-9 sophomore shot-blocking machine.
Lammers' 173 blocks rank him sixth in the nation among players whose stats have been reported to maxpreps.com.
He's also averaging 14 points and 8.2 rebounds for the Mules, who are the third-ranked Class 4A team in the state.
Heights coach Andrew Brewer said one of Lammers' biggest strengths is how coordinated he is for his height. Lammers has had time to adjust to being the tall kid in class — he was already 6-3 in seventh grade.
“I got used to the physicality of varsity basketball faster than I thought,” said Lammers, whose father Chris Lammers was an All-State lineman at Churchill and went on to play at Texas A&M.
