I can't help but wonder if this is another Daniel Alexander. While I know Alexander redshirted, you don't typically see redshirted players come back and make a huge contribution.

No, Caruos from what I've read on Premium is not like Daniel Alexander.

Caruso definitely has the skill set of a SG, and he even has the handles, court awareness, and ability to play some PG if needed.

DA is a 3 or 4 position player, and he needed (needs) to bulk up a bit for that.

Elonu was a redshirt. Panned our pretty good and got drafted.

hes not like DA. He's as athletic and just as smart, but at least 3-4 inches shorter. My dad has a friend who watches HS BB and he says caruso is legit. My guess is the naysayers are just saying so for the obvious reasons. He can play PG, DA cant.

Why would you wonder that?

Elonu had to "redshirt" because he was sitting out after transferring from the initial school he signed with.

I have seen him play a number of times---very athletic---when he beefs up--gets stronger---he will be a threat from anywhere on the court....can shoot(and will get better) and he can penetrate and dish with the best of them--unselfish as well. I was wondering what took us so long to offer....then we had a coaching change....BAM! The Colo. coach is a good man...was here for a while--Alex grew up playing with him for fun....They were real close. Glad we won out---good kid!

He may have HAD to redshirt, but he most certainly needed to redshirt. He definitely wasn't the most coordinated guy when he got to A&M. He benefited from the extra year, even tho in the end he left with 1 year of eligibility left. He developed his skill set greatly from the time he got to A&M to the time he left.

how do you benefit from not playing a year, when you leave with a year of eligibility left? All I can figure is he lost some game minutes his freshman season.

not playing a year?? He practiced with the team and worked just as hard as everyone else, Im sure. He wouldn't have contributed to the team his first year so he was able to not lose a potential season of eligibility.. which in the end he did not use. Not all players have all their coordination by the time they are 17,18,19 years old. Especially the big guys, because they go thru alot of growing really fast. My point was that he could have greatly benefited from having a year to hone his skills, and THEN be able to put them to use in game situations.

That was a wild summer when Caruso blew up. Remember seeing him at a couple of tournaments and talking to the staff here and being like "y'all sure about this?" until they finally offered him.

There was a lot of "we sure J-Mychal Reese is the best player in the Brazos Valley?" talk that year.

Alex falls into the category of a very very good high school player because his team needs him to do everything. But, he is a Sam Houston, SFA type player in college. D-1 talent bur not Tier 1 D-1 type.

Kid can play though.
It's not fair, but...

I played ball with him in hs and Alex is the smartest basketball player I have ever played with. He is aware of everything happening on the court at a given time and has the skill set to take advantage of that

I didn't get any answers on the recruiting board, so I'll ask on here.

Is A&M looking at Alex Caruso at all? He's very good and athletic I know, I've seen him play.

I think he will be a great Aggie player! He may even make it to the pros.
