Why is Turgeon so cranky?

LOL.

What a whiner. Learn to be humble in your wins and take your losses standing up like a man. The crybaby approach won't endear many.

Your other quote describes the situation aptly
"I can't explain what happened, I was totally lost over there".

If you plan on succeeding as a coach, don't put your tail between your legs and yelp.

Elite basketball program first, attendance will follow.

How long will we be saying that? Another 4 years of going to the tourney? 6? 10?

The fact that Turg says things he shouldn't is one thing, the fact he is absolutely correct on this is another.

This thread angers me. Turge is doing a very nice jog. He lobies for his team and wants us to at least pretend like we give a crap.

i would go, but i dont live in CS and work for a living. See, I'm not going all the way to Houston, hell, even CS for a BBall game. Well, i did get tickets to the KU game. but i had to plan that 3 months in advance.

what i dont understand is the students. i went to every home conference game during the 0-18 season. i mean, its not that hard to make it to a bball game. they dont last long and you can continue what you were doing when the game ends.

Sounds like a guy not completely happy in Aggieland like BCG.
Hell, Wichita State averages more than A&M.
Can't blame the guy.
BB can start the interview process soon as we may lose another solid coach.

i will say this, while turge's first team underachieved by quite a bit, last year's performance was very good. we lost a TON of talent and experience (kirk, jones, deandre) yet we actually improved our conf record. we also elimintated the blow out losses.
if i were grading him, i'd give him a c+ for season 1, and a b+ or a- for season 2. i like what i have seen from this team so far as well, and future recruiting keeps getting better. so, overall, i am pretty pleased with the job coach turgeon has done.

I applaud Mark Turgeon's comments. He is doing this for his players. They DESERVE more support. They are definitely putting a quality product on the floor. I think the whole "Aggie Spirit" crap is overblown most of the time.

If anyone thinks Blair doesn't "whine" about attendance, they aren't listening.

Why do people who attend the games think the coach is talking about them when he complains about a lack of support? Not very logical thinking.

The bottom line is that our attendance has been pathetic the last couple of years considering the caliber of program that we've become. That said, every other program in this state, including Texas, has the same problem.

The Longhorns can overcome it better than we can because they have a larger arena and their average will always be better than our average. And they have Austin. The size of our crowds has a big impact on recruiting and makes the coach's already tough job that much tougher.

I get tired of Aggies talking about how we are the world's greatest fans. We spend way too much time patting ourselves on the back and telling the world how special we are instead of getting out and actually supporting the team.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Byrne's ticket pricing is the problem. All Aggies sports besides football depend very heavily on the local fan base for their core support. We need to price our tickets in a way that encourages locals to buy season tickets, not just come out for 1/2 price holiday hoops and free hot dogs.

Different markets require different strategies. Aggieland is a little far for many people to drive for a mid-week night game on a regular basis. Therefore, your draw has to be from the locals. I live right here CS and would absolutely LOVE to go to every game. For me (and many I know) it all comes down to economics. Lower the prices and I'll go to more games.

Now, before someone calls me out on my level of support . . . I'm a long-time season ticket holder for football and baseball and I go to almost all the games. Lower the price for basketball and I'll gladly do the same.

If Turgeon wants to gripe at anybody, he needs to start with his AD. On a side note, I was visiting with coach Blair about 4-5 years ago at a function and mentioned ticket prices. He didn't know what they were at the time. When he heard what a regular conference ticket cost for one of his games his face flushed and he didn't look happy. I wonder if Turge has had a similar experience?

Given your coach's comments and attitude, I'm sure Steve Alford would love to invite you to the Pit next year and meet his three new recruits and most (only 1 senior this year) of this year's team again.

Likely we'll be an "elite name school" by then so that will be a bit of salve for the hiding we'd love to give Turgeon.

No offense to the Aggie fans as you sure seem to be by and large a classy and stand up bunch but your coach is a crybaby that needs some toughening up, we'd love to help with that.

Mike, get your filth out of here. You beat us and Turgeon spoke to the economics of the game. He was dissapointed in the turnout and new he should have never agreed to play you guys in Houston. Nothing good come come of it. Now based on our recent succes you or your coach are in no position to speak to toughening up. He isn't upset that you won, he was upset that the game never made since and he agreed to it anyway.

I have never seen an opposing team's fans come out of the woodwork after a win like this before. There was only one before the game, but now they are all over beating their chests and wanting to rematch at the dreaded pit. They're like roaches. Someone get the Raid and take out the trash.

He is no longer in that situation. Just because it was important for him to win those games 3 years ago doesn't mean he should feel like he owes it to other small time programs to schedule them. He isn't being a hypocrite just stating that he had little to gain. Sorry you guys got so but hurt by his comments.

Listen guys, if Turge continues coaching at this same level a bigger B-ball school is eventually going to steal him away. We should enjoy him while we can and and hope he leaves our program in good shape for a new coach when ever he decides to leave.

sadly, I think is what may eventually happen if support for the hoops program does not improve.

there are other games to be played besides the other big12 south teams and kansas.

As I posted on another similar thread!

If you know Turge he does not make any comments that are not caculated. All he is ever trying to do is build A&M to be the best possible basketball program it can be. He also will defend the program and the players when it needs protecting. It's just unbelievable to me that many of the A&M alumni think A&M fans are such great fans & support there team. If you have been around at all you know that A&M basketball fans are average at best! Also to not kid yourself and think that Turge can't get another job that pays as much and has as good as support(support is just not attendance) as A&M. He will probably win another 20 games or more and go to another NCAA tournament again and he will be gone if the right offer comes along. Then when his recruits are gone in 3 or 4 years then will see how great A&M basketball fans are!

i would disagree with that. in fact, i would say that if anything, turge's honesty about what he is feeling sometimes gets him in trouble because 99% of coaches would be "calculated" enough to stick with coachspeak.
