I think he's gone. That kid is a player, and his stock will only rise as tourney time comes around. I think he's going to have a terrific tourney.

I believe it was Pat Forde who stated that if DJ Augustin returned to Texas next year, they could very well be the pre-season #1 in the polls.

He's definitely a lottery pick at this point.

Forgive my lack of NBA acumen, but even with the rookie cap doesn't a #18 draft position still make Augustin a very rich man?

Didn't he consider leaving last year? His draft position should be much better than it was after his freshman season so I would imagine that he turns pro. If he doesn't, the horns are going to be amazing next year..

it does make him a rich man, but he probably wouldnt leave unless he were a top 10 projected pick.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Augustin's draft status should peak after this season. Being an All-American and such as a sophomore, I just do not see his draft status rising much higher after this year, as there is not much else for him to prove. Unless for some reason next year's class is supposed to be significantly weaker at the point (I'm not sure how it is perceived at the moment), I believe his draft status could slip next season.

As far as player comparisons are concerned, I feel that he is extremely similar to Jameer Nelson. They have similar body types, Jameer was extremely quick with the ball and tough to defend, and Jameer was a fairly good shooter.

I can't believe they have him at 18 on any board.
He is the best guard in the country. He cannot top that next year. Only big men and specific needs will go ahead of him this year IMO.

It would be foolish to turn down the money even at # 18.

Unless he's about to have a growth spurt, his stock isn't going to get much higher.

Acie went higher than he was projected and DJ will too. He would be crazy to stay because I don't think he could get any better.

For what it's worth, Charlie Pallilo thinks DJ will be no more than a back-up.

this is a really deep year for guards. i think he will go pro but he wont be a lottery pick. here are some other top guards coming out this year.

There will be plenty of time to concentrate on his degree (w/ millions in his bank account) should he leave. You cannot take much stock in what a player says during the season. In fact, I cannot recall ever hearing a player say that he was going pro during the season. On the flipside, we have heard many players profess their desire to stay around another season only to leave once the money became too much to turn down (ala Durant last season).

If he's projected top 15 he probably is gone and should be however due to his size I do have some doubts that he'll be more than a starter on a bad team or backup on a good team.
