I figure an 8 or 9 seed are about the same.

I don't know, but teams like George Mason a few years ago give all teams hope

Wisconsin and North Carolina both made the Final Four in 2000 as #8 seeds.

Only #9 seed to make it was Penn in 1979 and that's when the field was 40 teams.

UNC beat #1 seed Stanford in Birmingham, then came out of the Austin regional in 2000 en route to their Final Four berth. Watched 'em beat Tennessee and a tough Tulsa team coached by none other than Bill Self... "Easy" Ed Cota and Julius Peppers did the dirty work while freshman Joseph Forte lit it up from the outside. Great couple of games

BTW:

The last 8 seed to win the Title was Danny Manning's Kansas team.

I have a feeling Deandre will be on fire and lead this team to the title this year.

I don't know if its the last time but Villanova was an 8th seed!

In 1985, under the direction of coach Rollie Massimino, the men's basketball team completed one of the most surprising runs in NCAA tournament history by winning the national championship in the first year of the 64-team field. The eighth-seeded Wildcats beat Dayton (at Dayton), then upset top-seeded Michigan, Maryland and second-seeded North Carolina to win the Southeast Regional en route to the Final Four in Lexington, Kentucky. After defeating 2-seed Memphis State in the national semifinals, Villanova met defending champion and ten-point-favorite Georgetown, led by Patrick Ewing, in the title game[/url]
