Just some historical perspective about Tech fans:

Fans were leaning over the handrails and throwing punches at the players. David Edwards, a player, was knocked down.

That was one of my favorite seasons of Aggie basketball I've ever witnessed.

Wilbert knocking that tech tard out was part of the reason why.

IMO, that incident was worse than the goalpost incident. It was a clear example of the pathetic nature of the Tech fans.

It was pretty pathetic. There was no security protecting our team. They were blocked off from the exit. Wilbert knocked the tech fan senseless. I wish we had youtube back in those days.

And then A&M has to settle a lawsuit with the morons.

Joe Wilbert taking up for his coach = badass.

Wilbert's k.o. punctuated years of pent up Aggie frustration with classless tceh fans.

It's too bad texags did not exist at that time so Ags could've collected a Joe Wilbert legal defense fund. Since the lawsuit played out long after he finished at A&M, maybe it wouldn't have been an NCAA violation.

Was at this game as a wee 12 year old living in Lubbock. One of the first instances in my life where my Red Raider blood started to turn maroon. (And Terry Venetoulis solidified that a couple of years later...)

On a side note, the barricades that are standard now for opposing teams at college venues are a direct result of this happening. Joe Wilbert, I salute you.

Now if we can get that kind of intensity out of the football ...

that tech fan went down like a sack of flour ... Wilbert leveled him. I don't know if the clip still exists but it used to be around on the internet even back in those "dark ages" days

What I think I remember is that a Tech player fouled an Aggie with like a second or two to go. Our player made the free throws and then we sunk a basket at the buzzer. If the tech player had just let him go, they'd have won.

It's playing in my head right now. That was the game when Tony Barone Jr made 3 3-pointers. Chuck Henderson made 2 FT's to win it after catching a court-length pass at the Laettner line and being fouled.

...and Nudist is still wrong about his dates.
