Sources say that Cuban, though, has gradually softened that stance and is prepared to include Van Horn if George doesn't bow to the internal and external pressure he's receiving from his teammates, bosses and fans. And if the Mavs did go the Van Horn route, they would not make the secondary trade agreed to Wednesday with the Nets in which they'd send a future second-round pick to New Jersey for Antoine Wright.

It all depends on Devean "Hey, I'm Relevant" George.

Devean needs to get his punk azz on board with this, especially since he hinted at wanting to be traded earlier this season.

Also because he is not in the driver's seat as he thinks. His "Bird rights" are controlled by the Mavs as they would evaporate is Mavs were to waive him. So the Mavs have leverage over him ultimately.

Well Lsal the Mavs could waive him. But with his salary still counting against the salary cap that might pose problems in trying to swing a trade for Kidd.

If he is entitled by contract or CBA to nix the trade then I don't see what the problem is. George should do what is best for George in this situation.

But they could do the trade with the KVH exception or another player, then cut George. Bye, bye Bird rights, which are a long shot for him anyway. His argument for "protecting" himself is thin at best.

To qualify as a Bird free agent, a player must have played three seasons without being waived or changing teams as a free agent.

Lsal - I'm aware of what the "Bird Rights" are. My point is waiving George might - I said might because I don't know individual salary details - pose a problem to the Mavs in regards to the cap. Keep in mind it is a 5 for 2 deal (plus the Wright trade). That would leave Dallas with only 12 players under contract but because of Kidd's contract it would do little to alter Dallas' 93.6 million dollar payroll. Now you waive George - money you still have to count towards the cap. You aren't going to finish the year with only 11 players so you have to sign at least one additional player. Just wondering if they might have cap problems in that scenario.
