He might stay. if he is predicted to go in the top ten he is probably gone though.

If he had bad knees, Portland would take him.

When will they draft?

JJ might also be an option for Portland.

I think a lot of basketball people would advise him to stay as there is a lot of things he needs to work on with his game and it is a lot easier to do that at A&M than riding the pine in the NBA. Plus he could use another year of maturing to prepare him for life in the NBA.

However he would most likely be a top ten pick just based on his athletic ability and potential, so most financial people would advise him to take the money.

I think if he stays, he could very likely be the number one player taken in the draft in 2009.

If I was an NBA team I would be loathe to spend a lottery pick on a kid who will have to play in the developmental league.

Jordan has the athleticism, but his offense is still too far from what it needs to be if he wants to play in the NBA.

I do not know if he should stay here for another year to develop his game vs go play in Canada or Europe, but I can't see him playing NBA ball right now.

Yes, but the question becomes do you think you could get someone better in the draft next year (or the year after)?

The NBA are going to draft him early regardless; he is 7' and very athletic. So it is really up to him if he wants to play next year or sit on the bench.

You would loathe it but there's always the possibility that this NBDL prospect might go "Bynum" on you.

I hate when people say that it is easier to work on your game in college. In the pros it is your job to work on your game. They have a plethora of assistants to work with you on every little aspect of your game. Just because you aren't getting burn doesn't mean that you aren't getting better. You just have to keep your head on straight making all that money and work hard.

Agree hoya but NBA GM's would rather you developed your game off the payroll than on it and DJ is nowhere near being a significant contributor on an NBA squad. All other things being equal they will draft a developed player over an undeveloped player. Of course, all other things are never equal.

Unless he is projected to be drafted lower than something like the 8th pick he'll probably go. There are intangibles however. Maybe he likes it in Aggieland. Maybe he will be advised he needs more maturity. Maybe his parents will encourage him to stay in college another yr.

I think you can make a credible argument that he would benefit more from another yr in college ball and I think you can make a credible argument that he would benefit more by going straight to the pros. It comes down to what he and his family think.

There is nothing that I've seen in the NBA draft in the last 10 years that makes me think this is even remotely true.

Well, The draft projections certainly agree with what you guys are saying so I'll have to defer to your knowledge. It doesn't make good business sense to me.

He's gone unless he has a season ending injury and lingering health questions scare the lottery teams away.

No way that guy is around next year. He was on the NBA radar before he went to college and probably would of been a lottery pick last year if not for the new rules.

Deandre will be back next year....he will project 10-15...and will be told if he stays and matures 1-5...BIG difference.

He'll get drafted by Seattle because they need someone to rebound Durant's 20 missed shots a night.

Thats kind of the way I was thinking about it Cobra but I'm not an NBA draft guru.

Hard to think that anyone could talk a 19-year-old kid out of taking millions to go play in the NBA.

But you think he'd listen to Acie? You know, someone who knows what it's like in the NBA?

In one of the Aggie sports magazines (forget which one), there was a big article on DeAndre earlier in the season and it was made VERY clear that his mother EXPECTS him to finish four years - understanding that an education lasts forever but an athletic career is an injury away from being done forever.

Staying another year? It's not THAT far out of an idea.

yeah if you sign a multimillion dollar contract you can never go back and get an education. you have to that before you go to the league. if you get injured you take your millions and go back to to school.

i have never understood anyone saying this.

what do you get an education for? so you can make a living.
Wanmaniac
How long do you want to ignore this user?
True.

But not many will go back and get that education. Few ever do.

And the millions that most athletes make is spent long before they even realize they had it.

I'd say one more year. there are too many great players in the NCAA that have proven themselves already for him to go top 10.

How in the world can that statement be false? So you're saying that GM's would rather blow money than save it?
halfastros81
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They are saying that NBA GM's draft on potential much, much more than on stage of development. First off, all GM's don't do the same things and secondly there is lots of disagreement over what constitutes potential. I sure wish A&M's football teams had performed at their perceived potential over the yrs, we'd have about 15 MNC's. Only time will tell who's right.

Jordan might benefit from another year, NBA GM's might actually prefer him to stay another year. But if he comes out they are going to take him. Just can't afford to pass on that kind of potential.

uh, no.

if you're a top 5 pick, there's absolutely NO reason to stay.

I certainly agree with that, but to think that a gm would rather develop a player on his own money rather than on someone else's is just retarded.

You people saying Jordan will be a top 5 pick absolutely crack me up. He won't even sniff the top 5. He won't be in the top 10. I doubt seriously that he'll be in the top 15.

dj has lost his starting spot! that tells it all! he need mountains of work before he goes pro!! he flat cannot shoot!! great dunker, so so on defense and needs to be stronger. he would be unwise to declare for the draft after his freshman year.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
wasn't there a legit 7 feet Texas A&M CC player taken in late NBA draft last year?

He was a senior I believe. So, Just being a 7 footer is not a gurantee of being drafted as a freshman or even as senior. Undoubtly, DJ is much more gifted than CC 7 footer.

If he declares he will be top 10. He is the rarest of breed in the NBA. Right now there is 2 players like him in the NBA. one is Dwight Howard the other is Amare Staudamire.

It isn't about being tall. It is about being tall and ridiculously athletic.
