Does anyone else hate this guy as much as I do? I was acutally enjoying watching bball games the first half of the season until he came back.

Most basketball fans realize that Dick brought college basketball to the level of madness it currently enjoys! I think he has been great for the game and for tv!! Glad he is back...baby!!

Only thing that annoys me is his constant name-dropping during telecasts.

I dont understand how anyone could dislike the guy.

I enjoy Dick Vitale. He brings a great energy to the broadcasts. I admit he went a little overboard on sucking Redick's D when he played, but Redick had parking lot range. My favorite moment was when Acie hit the trey at Kansas. I'm paraphrasing, "OHHHHHH. Is this guy unbelievable? He wants the rock in his hands when the game is on the line. His game just goes up to another level." Somebody who can get youtube at work will have to get the exact call, as I'm sure I butchered it. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

He is very annoying

As much as I loved the Acie shot at KU, I still can't believe the shot from what seemed like out of bounds over Kevin Durant at t.u. last year...never seen a shot made with that much arc to it! Did it travel thru the rafters...I think it sent the game to OT!
Can't remember if it was before or after t.u. was holding his jersey with no foul called.

You really don't remember those sequence of events-

kd hits NBA 3 to put sips up 4
DK hits a quick 3 on the other end, sips up 1
we foul someone, they hit 2 FT- sips by 3
Acie rainbow over kd- tied ball game, going to 1 OT
Acie hits another 3 to tie game, going to 2 OT ("HE DID IT AGAIN!" )
Acie fouled while shooting 3, not called a shooing foul.
makes 1st, misses 2nd on purpose. Was tracking own rebound, but Elonu got there first and tip was no good. Game Over.

The ONLY thing that could make that game any more memorable (besides a W) is Dick Vitale with the call...

The guy just loves college basketball, and has fun everytime he's watching a game. I think it shows..and enjoy hearing him get excited during the game.

Do you also hate Vin Scully calling a baseball game?

I like Vitale because of what he stands for BEYOND the basketball court. He's a spokesman for the little guy and he rarely pumps up a player that doesn't deserve it. It is very clear that Vitale does his homework and reports facts...unlike Ron Franklin and his "...A&M is the only school in the nation to have a fight song about their rivals..." crap.

Plus, he's one of the only guys on the tube that seems to genuinely care about the STUDENT-athlete and not just the athlete.

I agree with the Vitale fans. I love his enthusiasm.

How can anybody stand him! His voice and his laugh make me wanna put a gun barrel in my mouth. His OOOOHHHHHHH crap is getting old fast.

I also like how connected he is to the students/schools. How many pictures have you seen with him having fun with the fans? He loves the game, and everything surrounding it....and it shows in his enthusiasm.

I do realize that some don't like him, which is cool....but I have a hard time understanding why.

I like him for what he did/does for college basketball and he also seems to really be a good guy.

That being said, I can't stand to watch a game he calls. He simply cannot call a game without talking about Duke/Coach K in some way. Next time you watch a game look and see if he can make it past the 2nd TV timeout without talking about Duke. I've been doing this for over 2 years and haven't found a game yet.

Comparing this clown to Vin Scully does a terrible disservice to Scully.
Yes, he does enjoy his work, but so do a lot of other professional announcers enjoy their work without all the ANNOYING hype Vitale employs.

I heard they did a DNA check on a spot on Vitale's tie. It was a positive match for coack K.

Oh, and let me just add that I don't HATE the guy. I just can't stand to hear him announce a game I'm watching - especially if I'm really trying to WATCH it.

I can understand how people find him annoying but he knows what he's talking about and he absolutely loves and is passionate about college basketball. Personally I enjoy listening to him because he brings excitement to the game.

We haven't had dickie v yet this year. I'd think next monday is our only shot at it since the Kansas game is on CBS.

I've said this before - I think everyone should approach Dick Vitalis like people did Howard Cossel.

Howard used to make people so angry with the stupid things he would say - I'd just shake my head and wonder how he got the job he did.

But when he retired I really missed him. Monday night football slowly died away after he left - he couldn't be replaced.

I think Vitalis sort of falls into this catagory.

I used to like him but not anymore. It maybe just me but I prefer that the color analyst actually talk about the game I'm watching. Personally, if ESPN used him like they use Corso in NCAA football, he'd be a lot better.

With that said, and given that I think he has mellowed a bit over the years (he seemed to use his annoying yell "awesome, baby" much more in the '90's), I do find him annoying. I don't mind him nearly as much as I used to.

I am glad, however, that he has come back from his illness in such a quick manner.

Yes - I 2nd that about announcers focusing on the game at hand. Talking about their dinner last night or how great they were when they played is annoying.

I say that the guys calling the game should act like they are in the listeners living room watching the game with them.

They should ask themselves "Would I want someone in my living room talking or saying the things I am saying when they are trying to watch a game they really care about?"

My guess is 90% of the time you'd kick someone that talked the way most commentators do out of your living room for being annoying jerks and never ask them back.

He literally did this about 200 times last night!!!!

I don't get the big fuss over him. The guy just really likes college basketball and the energy/hyperactivity in his calls makes you feel how intense the crowd is when the games escalate. I get where he's coming from, so I like listening to the games he does.
