Not timing out - it's just not responding to a normal search request.

And I never have trouble with the search feature.

Ah if I try custom range it tells me to input a valid date. It does that if I type it in or choose it from the calendar.

Yeah it's flashing and then fading out in red 'input a valid date range' and I'm choosing those dates from the calendar

weird. it appears to want the month (<10) as a single digit IF its combined with a two digit month (>9). for now you can type your second date as "2/1/2018" and it should work. i'll let the dev team know of the bug.
