I think adding some statistics to the blue star system would be a simple addition that could greatly benefit the site. By statistics I mean average number of stars per post, total numbers of stars, highest starred post, etc. These would all be public and available to be viewed on a posters profile.
This would incentivize posting, the ultimate goal of a message board. I know some are of the opinion that the stars only encourage snarky posts but I think the popularity of these types of posts speak for themselves.
Just a quick thought. With the POTD functionality I have to believe you have some of this already built in so it would be fairly simple to implement.
