Because apparently this thread is desperately needed.

I will champion the Mayo. I will not eat a burger unless I can place a healthy shmear of Mayo on the top bun so that it mixes oh so right with the dollop of catchup that is on top of the cheese.

Mayo is the only condiment to eat with a ham or turkey sandwich and it isn't even close.

The lesser condiments have their place, mustard if eating a hot dog or brat but I won't use it on anything else.

I love mayo. I don't always use it because it's not great for you, but it's a must for corn on the cob or as a base for a sauce for fish tacos.

You put the mayo on the bottom bun to act as a moisture barrier to prevent it from getting soggy from the meat juices.

Also on Team Mayo here.

I only use butter for corn on the cob

Granted, I did not grow up eating elote or esquite, which is probably what you're referring to.

Mayo is fine as a base for other sauces or as an ingredient in tater salad, that sort of thing.

Burgers, hotdogs, corndogs need mustard, not mayo. And ketchup should never touch any of them. Ketchup is for variuos iterations of fried potato or a base for bbq sauce. And with potatoes, it's better if you mix the ketchup with enough hot sauce that it doesn't taste like ketchup anymore.

I fully agree with 90% of what you said, but I'm happy to use mayonnaise and mustard on burgers.

Get your hands on Kewpie mayonnaise (must be the made in Japan NOT made in US) and that take it up to a whole other level.

Why limit yourself to either? I never understood why people like their burger the same way every time. Sometimes I go all the way with mustard. Sometimes I like just lettuce and tomato and mayo. Sometimes mushroom and swiss. Seems boring to just go with the same thing on what's basically a ground meat sandwich.

All mustard fans should try the Dill Pickle flavored mustard from Trader Joe's. It is seasonal and only goes on sale in Summer so I usually buy 3 bottles to last.

Why not just buy/add pickles

This. ALWAYS mustard on the bottom/meat side of the bun, mayo on the top. Ketchup is for fries and nothing else. Nobody but a Yankee puts ketchup on a hamburger.

McDonald's has sold over 100 billion hamburgers with a squirt of ketchup on them. Your ketchup prohibition is faulty.

I don't mind mayo sparingly. Definitely tasty. But I have found that if I'm trying to be a little healthier, a little mashed avocado with some salt and pepper is a pretty good alternative. If you need it a bit creamier, can mix the avocado with some mayo. Or if you're trying to be healthier, mix it with some hummus.

This is America. We eat ketchup, not catsup.

Looks like, based on this threads opinion, a burger should have nothing on it.

Or everything on it.

No in between.

It's settled. Eat what you want

This is fair.

Ketchup on a burger is f'n disgusting. And McDonald's is worthless after 10 am. They're not all that great before either.

Ketchup on scrambled eggs is surprisingly tasty though

After making the Leroy and Lewis burger, I can attest that their burger sauce, half mayo, half beet bbq sauce, is freaking great.

I love mayo. But use it sparingly just because it's not the healthiest/macro friendly.

But on the topic of mayo and a weird direction. Big fan of Alton brown and he adds it to his scrambled eggs. I'll never go back to not adding a bit when I scramble them.

Pretty sure Wendy's, McDonald's, and Burger King all default to serving their burgers with ketchup, even in the South. Since I'm sure every customer doesn't ask for it to be replaced with mustard instead, your statement that it is a Yankee thing is false.

Wendy's combo of ketchup and mayo is pretty gross, though, but that is a personal opinion.

None of those places serve anything remotely close to a good burger regardless of what condiment you slather it with though.

Whether the burger is good or not is irrelevant to the discussion, we're talking about condiments and consumer behavior here, not burger quality.

Wonder why the Texas Double Whopper only comes with mustard then?
