I need to make gumbo on short notice and need to get the sausage at either HEB or Kroger in Cypress. Is there a good brand of Andouille or similar that you've used and would recommend for gumbo that doesn't require going to a meat market or Cajun grocer?

Hudson, Beaumont, and Zummos are decent. Not a fan of Cajun Holler. A good garlic smoked sausage is a fine substitute

You can usually find Holmes andouille at most grocery stores. It's serviceable.

Contrary to Fido's post, Cajun Holler is the best I've found at BCS HEBs. No Savoie's here.

Look behind the butcher counter. My local Randalls makes their own Andouille and it is good.

I ended up getting Zummos and the gumbo turned out pretty good! I appreciate the recommendations. I had about 30 minutes to get all the ingredients at the HEB by my house, so something easy to find was crucial.

Congrats on your success.

Did you make chicken gumbo or seafood gumbo?

Chicken & sausage. I can't afford to make seafood gumbo for the whole office lol. But it turned out great, especially for feeding a crowd.

Awesome.

In the future, if you're in a situation where you can't access andouille sausage when you need it, there is an option to make it at home.

This recipe calls for using country style pork rips and pork fat to either make links or sausage patties. You can make a leaner version using just ground pork bought from the store, you probably already have the spices needed at home.

This would mean making gumbo with ground sausage patties instead of links, but it'll work in a pinch.
