Heading to NYC for the Navy/ND game to see my Midshipman son…. we have steakhouse planned for after the game, but I'm wanting something fun and non-touristy, yet still something unique to NYC. We are "foodies" and not at all picky, so please let me know your favorite NY restaurants. Staying near MSG/Penn Station for convenience to the Trump Rally and for my son to get a train ride back to Annapolis…, but we aren't scared to travel in the city either!

Thanks in advance.

I've always wanted to experience "Little Italy" Italian food in NYC, but I understand it's not the iconic experience it used to be.
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really

I'm not sure where you are coming from, but I always love getting in a meal in Chinatown when im in NYC. Lots of great, not touristy spots

Fraunces Tavern where George Washington used to drink. Not sure how touristy it is though.

I have a long list of NYC recommendations, can you narrow it down at all? Price/fanciness level, any cuisine preferences, etc?

Off the top of my head:

L'Artusi
Torrisi
Crown Shy
Llama San
Lil Frankies (Cash Only)
Johns of Bleecker Street

Most of those are italian, but Llama San is a super cool peruvian/japanese fusion (Nikkei) spot.

There are lots of super famous places that will be hard to get in as well, happy to recommend some of those if you are staying at a hotel with a concierge or something.

It should be noted I don't spend a ton of time in midtown or further north unless heading to the burbs, so for specifics around MSG I'm not an expert.

We really enjoy Buddakan. It's Asian fusion and more up scale in between meatpacking district/chelsea

Frank is good Italian. Believe it's cash only still. East village

This. Great atmosphere, I recommend it. It has 3 or 4 different bars/restaurants each with a different look. One is more of a restaurant, I prefer the atmosphere of Independence Bar.

Thanks for the rec's!

Been to Fraunce's Tavern. Great Rec…

We are doing Vinyl Steakhouse after the game. Rec from a friend. It's in the Flatiron district. And I think I m going to go with the rec above for Llama San after the Trump rally. Looks very interesting and unique, and I was able to get a reservation.

John's on Bleeker is our go to Pizza also. I try not to repeat restaurants when we go to NYC. Too many options to do that, and I love getting rec's.

Nice! We had a great time. My gf isn't the most adventurous eater (I am) and she loved it too.
