After a year of extensive renovations and restoration, The LaSalle Hotel is officially open!

Now a Marriott Tribute Portfolio hotel, this historic property first opened its doors in 1928, welcoming travelers and workers from the nearby train depot. Its recent renovations weave together history with luxury and boutique-style charm, making it the ideal place to rest your head in Historic Downtown Bryan.

It's also home to Station 36, a contemporary restaurant serving up American classics, and The Boiler Room a Prohibition-style speakeasy with a secret password.

I've read about some bars with entrances that are disguised and with no signs advertising its presence. They seem to do pretty good.

I've also been to one bar where you would press a buzzer and someone would look through a slot in the door to check you out. If they approved, they would let you enter. This was back in the early 1970s and I assume it was to keep out the blacks back then.

So one with a secret password sounds interesting.

Too much light for a speakeasy.
