I'm looking to buy a gift for someone who enjoys cooking/baking/grilling.

Any ideas for a useful kitchen gadget would be appreciated.

My go-to is a Thermapen. Most people do not have a good thermometer so a (near) instant read with excellent accuracy is unknowingly extremely useful.

What kind of grill do they have?

Staub Multi Function Spoon

By far my favorite and most used utensil. Amazon also has plenty of Chinese knock-offs.

Our favorite kitchen gadget is high quality audio speakers. Second would be the smart kitchen faucet.

not sure about kitchen "gadget". But as far as something that would be used and appreciated I agree the thermopen, or a good quality knife. Maybe a nice cutting board?

Thermapen is a good one
Nice baking dishes or sheet trays are good to have and not expensive.
Vacuum sealer
Sous vide
Knife sharpener (seriously, some people don't ever sharpen their knives) I have a Warthog and I can sharpen all my knives in a few minutes and it's easy
Good poultry shears
A decent cocktail set with a tumbler and jigger if they ever make drinks
A pizza steel
A detroit style pizza pan, that's the only kind of homemade pizza I make anymore
Ice cream machine
Cast iron cookware, but you'd need to know what they have or could use

In addition to thermapen and sous vide, here's some random things I've bought fairly recently that I like.

Wooden Salt Box
Kitchen tweezers
Battery powered salt and pepper mills
Potato Ricer
Searpro
Malden salt

Scraper/Chopper
Microplane
Sauce Whisk

Buy them some nice steaks from a butcher. Then they can enjoy the grilling and you can share in the enjoyment of the gift.

Depending on budget a Pepper Cannon is the bees knees. They have some Amazon knockoffs as well

Thermopen for sure.

If they grill, wireless probes to link to phone to monitor Temps, a huge game changer for quality and you don't have to go out and stick it with the pen, even more so if they smoke meats. Thermoworks and Inkbird sell them with multiple probes.

Maldon salt and a nice salt cellar is my go to for kitchen related gifts or anytime i need something last minute. I bought myself the same thing and I use it almost every day

I recommend buying at least two. Easier to always have a clean one that way.

Maybe not the right thread but hoping to get a good recommendation for a small set of knives. Both my parents and my wife's parents still must have their knives they all got from their wedding registry, so whenever we visit it pains us to watch them use these ancient tools.

Ideally just need a set of 3-4 knives (no steak knives). Nothing over the top, but just a solid few knives that can replace the 10 they have that do absolutely nothing.

Something a little random.

People who don't have a rice maker don't think they need a rice maker.

People who have a rice maker KNOW their lives are incomplete without a rice maker. The predictability and the quality of a good rice maker is insane.

Here's mine (a Zojirushi)

A rice maker is a great suggestion. We have one. Highly recommend.

Tell me more. No seriously.

When I first moved out of my parents place, I took our family rice cooker with us. Being that my dad was from Louisiana, it was a Hitachi Chime-O-Matic. My grandmother bought it for him when he left home for college in the 70s. It was really basic but worked like a ****ing champ. I can't even imagine how much rice was put through that bad boy. It was like this one but more of a pale yellow color.

Anyways it finally kicked the bucket some time around 2010 (close to 40 years ain't bad) and I haven't had one since. What kind of features does yours have that you really like? Is there a setting for brown rice? Easy to clean?

Also if you aren't familiar with how the Chime-O-Matic became a Cajun staple it's a pretty neat story. Everyone in my dad's family owned a Chime-O-Matic like it was part of the bare minimum for a home kitchen. Set of knives, cast iron pan, big pot for gumbo, and a Chime-O-Matic.

I agree. I cook a lot and always thought they were stupid. Got one now that my two boys are both in sports and practices are a pain in the butt. They've allowed me to really up my rice game while also giving me more time to focus on what goes with the rice.

I got this Toshiba one last year and it's great. Can steam stuff in it with the rice as well. Not sure what makes a Zojirushi better, but they're top of every list I looked at.
