It will be interesting to see who gets stars. I'm out of the loop on the current TX dining scene, but I'd guess a couple of 1 stars in each city. Maybe there is one 2 star worthy place somewhere in the state, but I'd bet heavy on no 3 stars. Probably a lot of Bib Gourmand.

Atlanta and Denver both came out in the past year, with each getting five 1 stars and nothing higher.

So every restaurant in Texas just became the Bear in real life?

Do they give stars to food made in people's backyard? If so, start handing them out around here!

So those Texas cities finally paid up to be ordained "food cities" by Michelin.

I don't want some tire company telling me where to eat

I agree. In Dallas I can think of one restaurant that could get 2 stars, but probably won't and shouldn't. Michelin guide loves fancy sushi places and it serves an 18-course tasting menu that is as good as anything in the country (plus the sushi chef came from a 1 star place in NYC).

I agree there will be more Bib Gourmand, and recommended places with only a couple of spots in each city getting a star. Our biggest drawback from the star prospective is the service and tasting menu format that just isn't present in our market.

I think its funny how many friends expect their favorite steakhouse to get a star while I would be shocked if any steakhouse gets one. It will be interesting to see how many restaurants pivot and start focusing on tasting menus to star chase.

I'd be surprised if there is more than one or two 2-star restaurants in the state. I'm sure if there is one it will be in Austin, the only city considered chic by those from outside of the state.

I'd expect a handful of 1 stars in each city and they won't be steak houses, for sure. If Denver got 5, be hard to see DFW or Houston being less, frankly, but possible.

A dozen in Texas would not surprise me. It's not that difficult to get one star, given you have the right kind of restaurant. Austin getting three wouldn't shock me at all.

The Reddit threads are pretty amusing - several people seem to think Fort Worth has a ton of restaurants that will earn multiple starts.

... I sincerely doubt it, but I'd love to see this lead to a renewed interest in our culinary scene.

One in FW I could maybe see is Hatsuyuki Handroll Bar.

Funny to note that Tim Love establishments are mentioned and that he'll weasel his way in.

What Tex-Mex restaurants are going to get some Michelin stars lol

Most restaurants I go for my favorite dishes are in hole in the walls lol

It won't be any Tex-Mex places. It would have to be something similar to Hugo Ortega's places in Houston, like Xochi or Caracol.

I'm not saying either of those two should get a star, just that it would take a really good restaurant in a more authentically Mexican style.

Pappasitos and Joe T Garcias aren't in the mix.

Can't help but think this is gonna be a boom for the state. Is there a place (in the guide) where you can open a restaurant cheaper than TX?

Agree on the steakhouses. While Pappas is probably my favorite steak out there, it's not a one star restaurant. Killens STQ is up there for me as well, but again, it's not a one star.

Not current, but I went to Californios in SF a few years back and the staff said it was the only Mexican restaurant with ** at that point.

I think March or BCN probably have the best shot at a star in Houston. I don't see anything getting more than one here. Xochi might be able to squeeze in but is more likely to top out at Bib Gourmand.

In addition to being difficult to get, stars are difficult to keep. One of the best meals I've ever had with probably the best course I've ever had was at Le Benaton in Beaune. They had a star in 2022 when I visited but lost it in 2023.

ETA: it will be interesting to see how they handle barbecue.

I'm sure there a bunch of places around the world, but the most recent guide that came out comes to mind. I'm pretty sure Mexico qualifies.

I'd bet that the Mexico tourism board paid extra to get a star for a taqueria, knowing that none would normally get one.

I could see TX doing this too, but probably for Franklin's BBQ, not TexMex.
