I think you gotta go get the two classics (Pat and Geno's) right next to each other and the true OG. If people are convinced there are better ones, then I guess go see it, but I don't know if that really matters. Texadelphia is better than either Pat or Geno's IMHO and I'm still glad I went and had the original.

I'm assuming this is a joke? Otherwise what a very bizarre post
It's not. Both Pat's and Geno's are mediocre at best and live off undeserved hype.

You can get a better tasting cheesesteak in Paige or Bastrop Tx.
Ha I definitely wasn't saying that those are the best cheesesteaks. I was saying that nothing at Texadelphia is remotely in the ballpark.

If it has queso or bbq sauce or something like that... it can certainly be a tasty sandwich but that doesnt make it a cheesesteak.
I've had all 3. Texadelphia is better that the other two (not by a lot, but Pat's and Geno's set a pretty low bar). Mainly because their mustard blend is pretty dang good.

From what I understand it's 2 parts mustard, 2 parts mayo, 1 part teriyaki. Pretty simple.

I'm going to Philly in the middle of November, any other food recommendations, not cheesesteaks? If that's possible

If you like pub grub, the New Deck Tavern in University City is pretty good. Or was 15ish years ago.

Amada. It's been a while, but it was excellent.

Reading Terminal Market

- Dinic's Italian Pulled Pork with broccoli rabe and provolone
- Hershels deli is probably the best jewish deli in town- pastrami is amazing
- Beiler's Donuts is the quintessential Amish bakery

If you can get some pizza from Angelo's, DO IT. Their cheesesteak is also arguably the current best in town if you're really down for doing any cheesesteaks. But their pizza is the tits too

We went to Philly and had a cheesesteak. Overall, it was a very disappointing meal. We had two. Why are these "popular?" They were bland and not an enjoyable eating experience, especially for a whole city to be known for these. I asked some locals what makes a good cheesesteak: bread and Whiz.

Thank God we live in TX where BBQ and tex-mex are king!

We ate some good Italian food, which was reasonably priced compared to Austin.

I sound like a grumpy old man, but I was not impressed with the cheesesteaks. But we did see the Liberty Bell

Tried Dinic's pork/broccoili two years ago and hated it, my wife hated it even more. She gave me grief for getting advice off TexAgs.

According to Joe Beddia (owner of Pizzeria Beddia), the real culinary star in Philadelphia is the pulled pork sandwich.

It's basically pulled pork like we're accustomed to in barbecue, except they do it in the oven, and serve it with the jus. It's honestly really close to the hot Italian beef sandwich in Chicago, except pork instead of beef.

Reading through a recipe, the spice mixture used to brine the pork overnight is incredibly similar to recipes I've seen for Italian sausage, especially hot Italian sausage. If you like hot Italian sausage, you'll probably like a Philly pulled pork sandwich (I wouldn't have broccoli on it, but that's me).

So I'd recommend trying a pulled pork sandwich from an Italian deli if you ever go back to Philly, but I wouldn't use broccoli or spinach as a topping.

Years ago my wife and I each had a s/w ticket expiring soon. We kicked around flying to Philly for 1 day, war Pat's v Gino's, then fly home. Those were all we knew based off of tv, back around 2008'ish.

It didn't materialize, but she reminded me recently that we should do this annd actually check out touring Philly for the first time as well.

All of that to say, what you did with the Uber and a dozen places is epic, inspirational, and I gained 6lbs reading it. Challenge accepted. If this happens in 2025 I'll report back.

There's a niche industry in NYC for Pizza tours. They basically drive you around for a slice at a bunch of different pizza joints and you get a tour of the city while you're at it.

I liked the roast pork and the cheesesteak at Dinic's. I really liked the cheesesteak at John's Roast Pork and Ishkabibble's

Back in 2015 my wife had a work trip to Philly so I tagged along. With nothing better to do I set out to try as many cheesesteaks as humanly possible. I started the day at 9am at Dinic's in Reading Terminal. Then I called an uber and told the guy my plan and he agreed to stick with me all day. We tried to hit up all the places I had heard of as well as his local suggestions. The only places we didn't go were Pat's and Geno's. I had to pace myself, order the smallest, sandwich possible, and only eat a few bites. But by the end of the day I had managed to check off something like 11 or 12 places. John's and Ishkabibble's were my favorites.
Nowadays an influencer would do this, record every visit, and post it on TikTok

Doing this and making a running thread on TexAgs as you do it would actually be pretty solid.

eek, sorry my man. It can be an acquired taste, but I find the rabe balances well with the pork and the cheese. But it's not for everyone

We recently returned to Philly earlier this month...and it's now crystal clear to me that Angelo's is still the best in town for a cheesesteak
