Damn - This thread makes me want to move back to the city.

Via Carota during covid was perfect, walk right in and grab a spritz / negroni, get a table 15 minutes after arriving.

We just got back and had a great trip. Hit up many of the spots y'all shared!

Thanks!

Il Cortille and Ferrara Bakery in little Italy were both very good. Little Italy is kinda touristy but the right spots are amazing. It's fun.

John's of Bleaker was awesome. Get a simple pizza, cheese or pepperoni. Line but we only waited about 20 minutes for a table. The people in front of us lived about a mile from us in austin so that was fun.

Venchi is a gelato spot next to Johns that we stumbled upon. It was bougie but very good. The line was out the door but moved quickly.

The Bagel Market was right by our hotel (near grand central) and where we got breakfast each day. It was good and convenient. Not sure if it was the best but better than what we have in Texas!

Are reservations necessary at most of the places in NYC?

There are thousands of restaurants in NYC and many are counter service or have lots of rooms for walk ins. If you are trying to go to a nice restaurant that has much buzz, a reservation would generally be recommended but that's just a super broad question.

Going in November to celebrate wife's 40th bday. Plan on trying to hit suggestions made here. Also going to make reservations at Le Bernardin for a fancy meal.
