Sure, it's not traditional custard ice cream, but it is freaking good. And it's 2 basic ingredients! First time I tried this I was blown away by the work to flavor ratio. The base recipe is as follows.
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups heavy cream chilled (I like to put it in the freezer for 10 minutes)
vanilla extract (optional)
Add the initial 2-3 ingredients into stand mixer and whisk until stiff peaks are reached. Alternatively, use a hand mixer. Fold in flavoring ingredients of choice. Pour into a loaf pan and freeze for at least 6 hours.
It's a GREAT way to experiment with different flavors. For my first try, I made some salted cookies and cream, recreating a flavor I had in Denver.
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups heavy cream chilled
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 - 3/4 tsp sea salt, or to taste
2 cups coarsely crushed oreos.
I think I might try dulce de leche ice cream next by just replacing the sweetened condensed milk with dulce de leche.
Anyone ever try this? What flavor combos do you enjoy?
