Was looking for a documentary on food to watch on Netflix, saw this one. Four part doc, roughly an hour each, dedicated to the four elements of Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Hosted by Michael Pollan, he examines our history as cooks, talking to a biological anthropologist about why we began using fire to cook and going up to modern times (this was made in 2015) when we're using cheese to better understand human gut health.
Pollan is obviously a big believer in cooking at home, but he makes a solid argument against corporations controlling our diet and against eating mega-processed foods.
There is a slight nod toward geo-politics (the anecdote on the price of bread being a harbinger of revolution was an interesting one) and climate change, but it is mostly apolitical.
If you're feeling in a rut and need motivation to get back in the kitchen and create something wonderful, Cooked will provide that motivation.
