I wonder where I could find a shoulder clod. I'd like to smoke one to see the difference with a brisket.

Smitty's Market in Lockhart sells them.

Did a clod once and it was not as good as brisket in my opinion. Could also be my cooking.

Did you smoke like a brisket? Was it dry?

I've tried smoking a shoulder clod that I picked up from Costco business center in Dallas.
I'm no beginner, not a pro, but I've smoked at least 100 briskets, so I know how my offset works. Half of it ended up dry as hell, the other half was full of fatty strands, similar to some beef plate ribs I've smoked.
It was cheap and brisket was up in the clouds pricey last year when I settled on the clod cut.
...take it easy on me, I'm a normal horn

smoked like a brisket and it was not too dry just lacking in flavor. Maybe my bad.

Clod isn't as flavorful as brisket. It's not as rich as brisket or short ribs. The other problem with it is there's muscles running in different directions making it difficult to slice. But it's great for chopped beef sandwiches.
