I am fan of cooking over a live fire and looking at my options for my suburban house to mimic what we do at ranch which is just building a fire on the ground. That is currently not an option at the house. I like the fire tables that some of the custom shops are doing but not sure I am ready to commit that much money. Does anyone have experience with a Kudu grill? I am curious about the expected durability of those things. Interested in what other folks are using as well.

Don't have experience with the product you mentioned. But we got one of these for a buddy for his groomsman gift and it's pretty legit. About as good of open fire cooking as you can get in a residential back yard.

They make a great product but are super pricey, I splurged for their offset but my wife would kick me out of the house if I bought from them for live fire. I would take these as a concept and take them to a local fabricator. I am sure the nuances on these types of pits are not as prevalent as an offset.

Do not cook under live fire. If you're being shot at, get to cover and return fire.

i see all kinds of cool things on facebook marketplace for cheaper than both those options. Of course not sure of quality. I had the ag department at my high school build me something and its pretty sweet.

Anything you would do differently about this design?

Maybe a collapsible end to easily get the ash out. I have more components that aren't shown here so I'm set on those.

I was thinking that or making one of the long sides open.

I've never seen or heard of this type of grill before...please tell me more...

Thats a cool table. I have a custom made fajita cooker. Open end on one side with expanded metal grate on top. Can't imagine removing ash without the open end.

Well, you light a big ass fire and spread the coals around and cook!

I'm going to start one for a client tomorrow that will have one end hinged for clean out. I think it will be a nice upgrade

I've been looking at Kudus too. My son just Eagled so our Scout camping days are over but I also really enjoy "campfire" cooking so looking for something to replace that. I also want to build a firepit in the back yard, so thinking about combining the projects...
