So I found about 15 bottles my dad bought in Scotland between 1988 and 1992. To be exact, couple Obans 14, Talisker 10, lagavulin 16, and a few islays like Laphroig (not sure which one). No ardbegs sadly. All in original boxes (some very different that today) and pristine condition.

Anyway, I'm wondering if they are any different that the same ones bought today. They seem to run 250-350 online but I have zero intent of selling them. Should I keep longer? Drink now? I rarely drink anything but islay so it's perfect in a lot of ways. Any advice welcome.

1. That is awesome. Congrats on the great whisky

2. I wouldn't sell anything you don't have a duplicate of, but obviously it's all up to you. It'd be fun to sample a dram from an old bottle side-by-side with a dram from a new bottle

I like the sampling part. Yeah by no intent of selling I meant there is no way I will sell them. Drink now or drink later. That's the question.

Lagavulin 16. Mmmmmmmm!!

Kinda funny. On my 21st birthday I bought a bottle of Chivas 12 with the intention of drinking it with my son on his 21st birthday. I clearly did not have the same taste for good whiskey I have now nor did I understand the aging process takes place in barrels at that time. I am now 43 and my oldest son is nine so the bottle will be 36 years old when I open it God willing. I have occasionally wondered how it will taste.

Drink now. The whiskey inside won't get any better, but it may deteriorate. It won't go bad, but the flavors will become muted with exposure to light and air over time. If cork sealed and stored upright there may already be some deterioration due to oxygen working its way in through the dried out cork. If sealed with a screw top you'll be in better shape.
