What are some of your favorites in Texas that aren't going to break the bank. Ones that are perfect for side or day trips

Examples for me are

Franklins and Snows for BBQ
Boiling Pot in Rockport
Mary's Cafe in Strawn for CFS
Lorena General Store for steaks

We will be showing some people around Texas during Christmas time and looking for places that would be good to show off Texas in terms of food during this time

Chicken fried steak @ the Oscar store

Migas or Juevos Rancheros at Cisco's in Austin.

Good choices agree with both of those.

Some of these I haven't heard of. Gristmill we love. Not so sure during December as much as float trip dinner during summer. I guess I have some more research tomorrow

Get a Storm's Special with double cheese at Storm's drive-in in Lampasas, Hamilton, or Burnet.
Enjoy biscuits and gravy at the Koffee Kup Kafe in Hico.
Kostas in Dallas for Greek food.
Maria's in downtown Ft. Stockton for Mexican.
My backyard for BBQ.

Breakfast at Blue Bonnet is pretty decent too.

Breakfast tacos at Taqueira Chihuahua in Giddings.

I don't know about iconic, but Evangeline Cafe in Austin is a nice mix of good cajun grub/atmosphere.

I haven't been since I was a little kid, but I remember the King's Inn near Riviera being good.

You can hear the old oil money jingling around in that place. It takes you back to an episode of Dallas and you expect J.R. Ewing to walk through the door.

Really cool spot. However, no one should ever go to Midland voluntarily. If work sends you there, definitely check it out.

How about Sonny's on Galvatraz island? I used to work there in the 90s and I would order an artery clogger for lunch. Looked like there were crack houses on the same road. Walked by a passed out bum with a 40 laying next to him. All part of the ambiance.
