Did a search and didn't see anything.

We were visiting my granny recently and talking about pumpkin pie. She said forget the pumpkin, you need to make a cushaw pie. She gave us a recipe and we're definitely going to try it as I trust her for all things baking and food in general. But anyone have any other recipes or anyone ever had a cushaw pie and care to comment? Are cushaw squash/pumpkins even readily available at heb?

Doubt it. You may look at a Mexican grocery store to see if they have them.

I think your best bet is to check local pumpkin "patches" that pop up around this time. The church in my hood had dozens of these.

I went to an HEB last night in BCS and they had a bunch! They were MASSIVE!

My grandparents used to grow them in their garden. They made pies out of them for several years in a row. I think they just made them like pumpkin pies.

supposedly squash makes a better "pumpkin" pie, anyway. but I say skip them all and do sweet potato pie.

Storebought pumpkin pie mix isn't pumpkin anyway... it's butternut squash.

I think you mean couillon.

that would be an actual term...rather than a term that sounds like something that it is not. thanks, professor.

Cushaw at Towerpoint/Navasota HEB.
My mom roasted it with savory seasonings.

HEB in Bulverde north of SA has them. Just bought one. 11.5 pounds. Plenty of recipes on line.
