Im looking for a canadian whiskey that has a similar profile to the Crown Royal Reserve. Im not a huge fan of reserve straight up but it's lack of aftertaste or bite is ideal for what i need. I will be making some eggnog this week and I was seeing if anyone had a recommendation of a similar option that is cheaper.

Forty Creek Double Barrel Reserve
I like Rittenhouse Rye for anything that requires rye. From mixed drinks to neat, this is my go to.

Also try Seagrams VO Gold. For whatever reason, I've found it to be closer to the original Crown flavor profile of yesteryear than current purple box.
We use Crown Royal Vanilla with our eggnog. Works great, good price, and is a great compliment to the flavor. It blends in rather than stands out...
