Any recommendations? Thinking about driving down there for a weekend just to eat.

Definitely get a poboy at Olde Tyme Grocery, it's near campus.

Prejeans is probably the most famous place - good food too, can't say I've had anything bad there personally. One of the few places that I actually like their gumbo.

Ton's Drive In is good, but not cajun - more traditional food though I do think they have gumbo and some other local fare on a regular basis

Guidry's Reef - I've never eaten there, but it's been around forever and a day and gets good reviews

Over in Beaux Bridge there is a place called Cajun Works that I've heard good things about as well.

Prejeans is largely considered mediocre to the locals, but I found it pretty good.

Guidry' Reef closed down.

Go to Kaliste Saloom and Pinhook and eat at T-Coons. Really good food there.

Cafe Vermillionville also good.

During crawfish season Crawfish Time on Ridge Rd is real good.

Non Cajun options:

Damn good pizza at Dean-O's South

Some of the best Sushi I've ever had at Oishi on Kaliste Saloom between Ambassador and Camilia

Olde Tyme Grocery has good po boys

Judice Inn has good burgers but they have no ketchup or tomatoes in the place. Kinda weird but I do like their burgers. Bring my own ketchup packets when I go!!

Zea is a regional chain but quite good. Try the Thai ribs or any of the rotisserie items.

If you make it down to Abbyville go to Richards and get Boudin.

Olde Tyme is money for not a lot of money. GREAT Po Boy's. Ate half the shrimp off the po boy before i could close it to take a bite out of it.

Everyone in my family in Lafayette, some of them native Louisianans for a few generations, likes Prejeans.

Don's seafood and BlueDog cafe are other options.

The Festivals Acadiens et Creoles is going on today through Sunday. Great music and great food! Wish I could have made it this year.

Black's Oyster Bar in Abbeville. Regardless of what Yelp states I have never had a bad experience there.

My family says Shucks is better. I can't say, I haven't been to either. I trust their opinions though. Certainly individual preference has to be taken into account though.

ETA: apparently Blacks went under new management last year... and now it sucks

If ya go to Prejean's, ask for Biker Bob to visit the table. He's a good guy, and will tell your ear off.

Ate at Social this weekend. It was pretty good.
