Is this place worth the hype. I've tried to eat at the one in round rock when visiting the inlaws at least 4 or 5 times now and every time the line is out the door. I refuse to wait in a line like that for a burger.

I love Hopdoddy. The line moves quickly and you can grab a beer while you wait.

Go early and sit at the bar. If there are empty seats, you can sit there without waiting.

Waited 45 minutes (most of it outside in the cold) my first time, in Austin. Really good burger. I'd say worth it.

I've been to the one in RR a couple of times. I want it to be everything it is hyped to be, but I can't. It's very average. And very expensive.

Hopdoddy is a very good burger. Great buns. I refused to wait in line at first when the location opened in Dallas, but it eventually died down.

Totally agree. I went to the one in Addison while I was in town for work. Without having to wait in line, a very expensive, average burger. I think folks in Austin are blinded by the line. If there is a line it must be good, or you might be afraid to tell the truth because of the line. It's all salt licks fault. They're the ones that started it all.

I had it first in Dallas and now live in Austin. The lines are longer in Austin. It's a very good burger, fresh made buns and patties. The Nutella pretzel milk shakes are outstanding. The same people who don't like hopdoddy usually also don't like Franklin. So that should help you decide whether you will think the weight is worth it. I however may head to the one in Triangle now, your post has inspired me

I went a couple weeks ago to the round rock location with some friends. Atmosphere was nice. We sat at the bar for a while till everyone arrived, and it allowed the line to die down a bit. I thought it was ok. I tried the "magic shroom" burger, and "La bandita" burger (the veggetarian option with a blackbean patty). The magic shroom part tasted pretty good, although the name is misleading, as I wasn't tripping later. But the la bandita patty kinda sucked (which is to be expected for a veggie patty I suppose). Regular fries were ok. I did not try the truffle fries. My friend really like their vanilla shake, I didn't have it.

It you want to have a nice time with friends in a nice atmosphere, I'd say it's not a bad place. But for a meal that cost me almost $15, I was kinda disappointed.

I view them as equal, but what are everyone else's thoughts on Hopdoddy Vs. Grub Burger?

Menu's are nearly identical, and if I'm in the mood for a "fancy" burger grub hits the spot.

I kind of divide my burgers into categories. All burgers but vastly different and depending on my mood i tend to want one type at a time.

Traditional(thick patty)- think Chicken Oil, Fuddruckers, Fatburger etc. Traditional toppings, sometimes cooked on grill over wood or gas.

Traditional(thin patty)-usually found at drive-ins, Storms in Lampasas, Dairy Cone in Columbus, or Hills Burger in Bellville. Cooked on flatgrill, crispy and salty.

Fancy- Grub, Hopdoddy, other "artisanal" burger joints.

Wife and I go to the one on Anderson Lane. Alwayssit at bar with no line.

We're blessed with several good burger choices close by: Hopdoddy (Anderson and the Triangle), Too Notch, Billy's on Burnet, Phil's (to go only, place is packed with vermin), El Sapo, Counter Cafe, Jewboy burger truck, Dirty Martins, Casino El Camino, and Ski Shores (service sucked ass last time though).

I much prefer Hopdoddy to Grub Burger although Grub Burger isn't bad at all. Other than the good burgers, the horseradish honey mustard at Hopdoddy is the game changer.

Over rated.

Definitely not worth the wait in line

I went to the one in RR with my family. It was alright, the burger was good, but overpriced. The waitresses (?) are terrible. It is not worth my time to ever go back.

I'll add that while the burgers at Hopdoddy are good, the best burger in town is at Urban.

Surprised the waitstaff was bad, that's one thing they usually get very right is employee buy in. The one at the Triangle has great staff. As you expand its hard to keep the quality that made you famous

I use the exact same groupings. I think this format for burger discussions should be made mandatory by law.

Billy Bob's in Hondo makes a pretty damn good thin patty burger. One of their things is good quality leaf lettuce instead of iceberg lettuce. It seems unusual to think that something like lettuce makes a difference, but it does.

Overrated and average. Good for Dallas or Austin where most people equate lines and trendy marketing with great food.

I like Franklin's BBQ but find Hopdaddy overhyped and expensive.

My preferences for good burger in Austin area are
Casino El Camino, Chu-Mikal's, Dan's, Mighty Fine, Contigo's, Dirty Martin's, Crown & Anchor, Sandy's, Top Notch

It's an excellent burger. Grub is a wannabe imitator that can't cut it.
