I will say that somethings taste bad, but to me this stuff is undrinkable. I was wondering about those who like it, was it an acquired taste or did you love it on first taste? Obviously somebody likes it or they wouldn't make it.

I do. I really like the smoky flavor.

Very much an acquired taste, but it is delicious

I do, but I have to agree it is an acquired taste.

I like it. But I worked up to it as well. I worked through a couple of bottles of mild peaty scotches before I was able to enjoy it.
My feeling is that sometimes the things you end up liking the most are more of an acquired taste. I love ipas and sushi. There was a time I didn't like either but I built up to it.

Bog water.

I haven't found a scotch yet that is drinkable.

A few drops of water will tame the peat and reveal some background elements.

I have to be in the right mood for Laphroaig 10. The QC is my all-time favorite dram. The peat is still there, but it's noticeably less.

I like the 10 and the QC. I also have a bottle of 2014 Cairdeas that is good as well.

I can certainly understand why a person wouldn't like scotch, and certainly those that are peaty, but I hope that you have tried some of the different kinds, because there is a huge difference between them.

the Triple Wood is really good too.

I've found some peaty scotches I like, but Laphroaig isn't one of them. the 10 tastes like rotten bacon. awful.

Don't know if I completely agree... I loved ipas the first time I had one at 21, same with sushi. Your taste buds definitely change as you age, but I'm not sure if I'll ever like the heavy smoke in scotch.

I have tried probably 20 different scotch distills - highland, lowland, Islay, Speyside....doesn't matter. None of them are for me. Glad others like them, but I just cannot find anything enjoyable about the distill myself.

Add me to those who like Laphroig. For some it's an acquired taste, but I suspect others are not disposed to ever like peat. There's a genetic component to people who can't stand cilantro, IIRC.

I love it

Never had a peaty/smokey scotch before I tried Laphroaig 10 yr and I really liked it. It's very interesting and was almost like two entirely different bottles from palate to finish

Have only has the 10, but loved it the first time I tried it. Bottle only lasted 2 days.

In my not-so-humble opinion, if you don't like Laphroaig, your taste buds are jacked and you should probably stick to appletinis.

I love peaty scotches and am a fan of Laphroaig 10, thoughI prefer Lagavulin or Talisker. I also didn't really work my way up to the peaty-ness, as my first scotch I ever had was Johnnie Walker Gold 18 year, which was a pretty smoky flavor for a blend. I think I was just predisposed to liking that peat and smoke flavor of the whisky.

I have a bottle of Talikser 18 that I think is the best scotch I've ever had.

I'm more in this camp. I like Laphroaig, but prefer Lagavulin.

I usually keep a bottle of something smoky around for a change of pace. My everyday is Glenmorangie and a bottle of Grouse that I go to for that last glass of the night or after beers or wines when I can't appreciate a nicer scotch.

I also prefer Talisker if I'm drinking something peaty. I still like the Highlands/Speyside stuff the best, though.

Smoke a cigar with it. Then you won't notice as much

If you don't like that brand, I'd recommend something (in my book) that is better: Lagavulin 16.
Everything else I'd recommend can't be bought stateside.

Enjoy.

It was my introduction to Islays. Didn't like it at first, but it grew on me.

It's like drinking scotch from an ashtray. Too many other things to drink to force myself to like it.
