Preferred non chain (capital grille is out, we have one in Fort Worth... same with ruth c). We haven't been to Fleming (chain, but we don't have one in ft Worth, not sure about dfw in gemeral)...

Also haven't been to ALC steaks...don't believe it's a chain...

Go! (Tia)

Shameless plug but we do great steaks at Jasper's. All cooked over hickory and oak.

You will not be disappointed in Jaspers. Prime rib all the way.

I have never found a great steak place in Austin and that includes every place that's been named as such on TexAgs. The last great steak I had was in Kalispell Montana.

Owned by Mattress Mack's daughter and her husband. Only associated with vints by name. I'd give it a chance if someone else was paying. Don't think I spend my own money there.

Yeah....Vints isn't in consideration.

Jaspers prime rib is excellent. But for some reason I don't consider it a "steak." Jaspers has some interesting food - it just doesn't feel like a steakhouse to me.

We definitely aren't a steakhouse per se...no doubt about that. However, we cook a better steak than most steakhouses.

I got the prime rib. Wife got the flat iron steak. Whatever you did to the spinach in that I'd like to know.

I've only been to Steiner and Jaspers. Both were just ight. I'd like to try AL&C.

IMHO the best steak place in Austin is III Forks. AL&C is slightly less polished in terms of presentation and service but it is a more comfortable atmosphere that fits Austin better (if that makes sense).

I was gonna say Backstage Steakhouse off of 71. Closed now, but did you ever go there?

The original Backstage was an excellent steakhouse. It was one of my go to places for a special beef centric meal.

I haven't been to III Forks - wanna go sometime. But I agree ALC is not quite as glamorous as some. It has an old school feel to it. It doesn't reek of power and macho like some meat places. But it seems comfortable in its own skin and I like that.

Been to Steiner and wasn't blown away by the steak. It was good, but not something I'd rave about.

Well we went to ALC Steaks last night. I was incredibly impressed. Food was fantastic. Definitely more relaxed that most fine dining steakhouses.

I had the large filet... and got a sample of their dipping sauces... to taste a bit with it. The jalepeno horseradish and jalepeno bluecheese were my favorites. Their salads are big and served in deep large bowls.... we liked it.

I should have taken pics.

Lastly, Uber is awesome.
