I get it, burgers are supposed to be meat, blah blah blah this is Texas whatever who cares, I'm not interested in it. Making veggie burgers is a little more intensive than a meat burger that you simply season and form, so I stick to this one beet/lentil/rice burger recipe that I know I like rather than being saddled with a dozen gross new recipe veggie burger patties from a blogger who toots their own horn even when their recipe isn't that great.

Soooo what's your favorite standby by veggie burger recipe? Vegetarian, vegan, doesn't matter as long as it's tasty!

I generally use your recipe posted, then toss in trash and substitute with ground chuck. Seriously wished i liked them, but don't.

Pfft, you missed a step. Modify your recipe to bring them to my house rather than tossing them, then move on to the meat burgers. That's the key!!

Serious Eats has a recipe . And another for black bean burgers.

I made the first one for a party where we had beef burgers but there were some vegetarian guests. It was pretty good, as these things go.

Ooh, Serious Eats! I really liked their run down on chocolate chip cookies (I guess the Food Lab stuff is somewhat of a series? I'm bad at following blogs), and I didn't know they had one on veggie burgers. Thanks!

I prefer black bean/mushroom burgers.

Beets aren't my thing and I like lentils in soups and on their own, but not in burger fashion.

The Serious Eats recipe is the best black bean burger patty I've ever had. I make it all the time, and I absolutely love all meat patties. The texture is just awesome with the dehydrated black beans and peppers.

Oh man, I made the Serious Eats burgers this weekend. They rule! The salty bite of the cheese and the texture the beans give them is the best! I cooked them on cast iron with some leftover oil from some garlic confit I has made earlier in the week...So charry, the edges paired with some melty mustard had that really meaty, savory quality. I get it, disconnect because I don't eat or want meat, but I do want savory and salty and hearty sometimes! I'm glad I have a ziploc full of leftover patties.

I think I might try and adapt those beet burgers into veggie breakfast sausage patties, and let these take over as the go to burger patty.

These rule, and you guys rule for helpful instead of rude about not-meat burgers!
