Father in law bought one (CharBroil TRU) and I'm not overly impressed with it. I'm a big fan of the Char-griller duo.

I have the CharBroil Infrared 3 burner. Got it back in 2010 when we bought our house. Personally I love it. Heats up very fast, relatively easy to control heat once you get the hang of where you need the knobs to be. Only 2 things I would mention is the temp gauge on the lid isn't incredibly accurate in my opinion (not a huge deal, again, once you know where you need it to be to cook certain things), and the grates are tough to clean. If you cook anything that has sugar in the rub or sauce, it can be a beating to clean. Really my only complaint.

Saber is essentially charbroil's cadillac. It has different warranties and parts than the charbroil version you will find at Lowes or HD. The saber has fully isolated grates and grids whilest the charbroil still has little holes between the grids that allows hot air (convective instead of infrared) to reach your food and also allows grease and drippings to enter the burner area and makes it harder to clean. They worked with TEC to develop the platform and instead of using the glass like TEC is currently doing they went with 304 stainless. So now you can get an infrared with TEC technology for 1000 dollars less. The only thing I find that was a turnoff was the rotisserie and fuel conversions come as kits and they are a little pricey for me.

+1 here as well, the cleaning is the worst part

Oh I should also point out I have the one with the trough under the grates, so it prevents flare ups and it doesn't allow anything to drop down and clog the holes where the gas comes out. I've seen that as a complaint, but I haven't had to deal with it at all.

I’m interested in one of these too. I’ve used both charcoal and propane. Like the flavor of charcoal but the ease of gas. I only have charcoal now but considering a cheap gas grill.

To clean yall should look into PBW—powdered brewery wash. Normally used in homebrewing. I’ve used it on my toaster oven pan inserts when they get nasty. Just soak in the solution overnight and it wipes off easy. Assuming the grates/inserts can be removed easily on them. I think PBW is just a concoction of oxycleanish type stuff. The internet could probably give you the recipe.

Good to know. I have some buddies who home brew, so I'll ask them for some to try it out before I buy some myself. One of the things I like about my CharBroil Infrared with the trough is you can actually put soaked wood chips in the trough when grilling to get the taste of using charcoal or smoking something. Really convenient.

I'm looking at getting a new gas grill as well and have been doing a little bit of research on the charbroil infrareds. There are quite a few reviews saying that there have been issues with rust after about a year, even when they are kept covered. Have any of y'all had any issue with rust?

No, literally none. I keep mine covered, but it stick out from under the patio some and probably gets some weather. But no rust on mine in almost 4 years.

Where do you live? I'm guessing that might have something to do with it as well. Being here in southern CO I think I might be better off with the lack of humidity.

I'm in north Dallas. Plenty of rain (and the last couple of years, snow and ice) but not like Houston or anything. Just got done doing some great rib eyes for dinner on it to go with baked potatoes and broccoli. Perfect for football.

Take a look at Solaire, I have the portable and it's awesome. I stayed away from charbroil tru infrared since it's not really TRUE infrared. Do some research on it. I highly recommend infrared, quick and easy grilling.
