I've pretty well torched mine cooking pizzas and reverse searing steaks.

Replacement recommendations? I know BGE has a nomex version and there are several aftermarket options.

Thoughts?

Look on the Primo forum. There is a guy who sells gasket material for all the grills. It is not nomex, but from what I can tell, handles high temps even better. I put it on my Primo after burning up the original cooking pizza and it hasnt even hardly discolored yet.

replaced mine with a nomex off amazon. If I had it to do again, I would have only put it on the lid.

I called BGE and told them mine was toast. They offered to send a replacement - I asked for nomex if they had it. The guy said fine and mailed it. No charge. That was two years ago and I haven't had any issues since.

One of the BGE forums recommended the call and the upgrade request. Not sure if they still do it, but they do have a well respected customer service dept.

As an aside, they should send the nomex to start. That is a curable issue they know about, and the cost of the gasket doesn't push the needle on the cost of the unit.

I called warranty dept. at BGE and the guy told me that it was a part designed to be replaced and basically I could go pound sand.

Wasn't real impressed.

Cotronics is the gasket material I put on my Primo. The guy on the Primo forum is in Maine and buys big rolls of it and just cuts it and ships it based on the kind and size of grill you have. For my Primo XL it was $20 for the gasket material and then had to go buy some high temp gasket sealer to adhere it.
Don't know how it compares to the Nomex, but this guy is an old engineer(I think) and swears by the Cotronics. I think it is used in the boiler industry.

I don't understand why a good company like BGE would knowingly make something that isn't worth a damn. The rest of the cooker is so good...gotta be frustrating.

BGE sent me a replacement gasket this past summer. Told him I fried it after 3 months duing pizza, he sent me the 'high-temp' version. Guess its NOMEX. He was a little slow to respond because of the summer vacation schedule, etc. but otherwise a good experience. I did use the egg for a month or so without a gasket without a problem. The guy I emailed with was Duane Davis, [first initial].[last name]@biggreenegg
