Baileys irish cream vs. others

I was in liquor store the other day and stopped by the Bailey's area. (a winter cocktail must have!)
I noticed several other brands, all almost half the price. Of course I got sidetracked by the beer walk-in and ended up with 7 bombers, but I digress.

Is there a taste difference in all these Irish creams? Does the brand 'baileys' just drive the higher price? Curious if anyone has tried any others. Same could be asked about Khalua and others.

I don't drink it straight but for car bombs and cooking I buy Sean's (I think) or whatever is on the shelf that's reasonably priced without being the cheapEST. If you're just putting it in coffee I think you could get away with something cheaper.

well hell I went in again today, and Bailey's was down $5 to $17 for 750mL, and it was gift pack with two coffee mugs.. So I just went with it. Plus I only paid $10 for the $20 groupon.

Never really ran a taste test, but for coffee, I have been getting into the Knickers. Of all the brands out there, something just draws me to that name. LOL

You ever drunk Bailey's from a shoe?

I've found that one called Carolan's, (sp?) it tastes almost exactly the same, maybe a little better, and it's usually 3-5 dollars cheaper.

If you can find it Buffalo Trace has a new bourbon cream out, that blows every other cream liqueur out of the water, and it's not any more expensive than Baileys, maybe a couple bucks less.

It's not available everywhere quite yet, but they are in the process of expanding production/distribution at a pretty rapid pace due to the overwhelmingly positive response in Kentucky and the surrounding states, so keep an eye out for it.

When I was at the distillery in Aug they said it was only available on site. I thought it was tasty stuff.

Yeah, it was this past summer, but now you can get it in stores all over Kentucky and in Ohio. They're expanding it pretty quickly, and I know Texas is a big bourbon buying state, so I would imagine they would be pretty high on the list. I know there's bourbons like Old Pogue, that are only available in a few states, those being: Kentucky, the adjacent states, and Texas. So I don't think it will be too terribly long before you start seeing it down there in the Great Republic.

I have a recipe that blows baileys out of the water.

I will post later after I find it.

I've used Carolans too.

I've developed a bit of a fondness for this:

I've only had it over ice, can't speak for how it would be over coffee

I only use this once (maybe twice) a year when I get my annual Colorado bulldog fix. Mark me down for Carolans or other cheap-but-not-bargain-basement knockoff.
