That sounds a lot like what we call "atole de arroz" in south texas. Grew up eating that...Good stuff!!!

My grandma makes this for every family holiday get together. At this point it would be weird not to have it. I am not a huge fan but my cousins LOVE the stuff.

never had something like that

Now I love rice pudding, but that is dessert.
For me it could not be a side.

I like rice with butter, salt, and hot sauce

Will this work in a pressure cooker/instant pot?

I never tried. I would think so.

Yeah, you would definitely want to make adjustments based on your experience. I have never used a pressure cooker.

My German Grandma calls this Milchreis. It's a staple in my family and just plain pretty good.

I'm another with a German Grandma. She passed years ago & she never wrote a recipe down. She used to make these things that were boiled dough of some sort that had been flattened into a round shape and they sort of puffed up/raised while boiling. They were still very soft and still doughy & she'd cover them with butter & sugar. She called them something like "Pappabots" - excuse the spelling, I have no idea what they were really called, but as a kid that's what it sounded like. Any of y'all remember or had these?

Thank you! Very similar - except we had no filling or seed topping - could have just been her "modifications".

I bet it would!

So is this a side dish? Dessert? Breakfast?
