a good buddy is in from Spain and swung by the house tonight so a 2009 Ch. Brane Cantenac was opened as well. He is now going back to Spain with a '21 Macdonald so I'd say he had a good Christmas.

How is this? I see these often, but haven't tried.

Found it to be very good. Received it from a family friend. I'm always tend to have a preference for a full bodied cab from California though so my palate isn't sophisticated for much else. I need to start branching out to other regions of the world.

Opened a Semillon tonight. Fun change up from my typical wines. Nice and refreshing white to have after the bigger and bolder Christmas wines recently.

We had a 2021 Fess Parker Ashley's pinot noir last night. Bought it primarily for nostalgia and the celebrity name at the little wine shop Empouria in Galveston, but it was very good.

great as always. I preferred the '15 to the '17 if I had to be picky. Just more well rounded.

Followed those up with these two beauties in Beaver Creek.

Ribs coming along well to pair

This was a stunner. Ripe fruits, but not jammy. Raspberry, cassis, earthy, cocoa. Amazing

First, love the label. The detail that they provide is cool for a wine nerd.

Really impressed here with the wine. Really opened up after 3hrs. Cassis, dark fruit. Plum right up front, then long and broad finish. Nice kick at the roof of the mouth. Delicious

They provide harvest yields, one of the primary determiners of phenolic concentration. I wish every one did.

Helping a buddy from out of state whose daughter is headed to Baylor, and wants to incorporate some hill country wine visits when traveling to Waco, what are the consensus best visits in the hill country that are friendly to non-members and allow under 21?

Biased of course, but Inwood Estates. Under 21 welcome but can't taste.

Thanks Cecil, I'll shoot you a PM whenever he heads that way.

Any experience with the northern Hill Country wineries closer to Waco? I saw recs for Perissos and 7 Creeks as I searched.

Perissos is one of the prettiest vineyards in Texas, last I was there. And the wine is just fine as well. Worth a look.

Couple of recent bottles. Had a Pinot from Chile that I opened earlier and was disappointed to find it corked. I'm getting more and more against regular cork closures. Give me the DIAM and screwtops. I was really looking forward to that one, I had tried it before and was blown away.

Anyways; I believe this Vouvray was from Last Bottle. Nice easy drinker. The Pinot is from a Santa Barbara county winery that has been mentioned on this thread before. In fact, I may have visited it due to recommendations on here! It was a great Pinot.

Any experience with this? Friend of mine has done blind taste tests and says this is the best way to decant wine quickly.

Highly concentrated and purified oxygen comes in contact with the full body of the wine more evenly and makes the aeration more efficient. This reduces traditionally required long decanting times. The efficient and convenient aeration process suits the rapid pace of modern life. Enabling you to decant in minutes not hours.

Honestly I'm a skeptic for most of these type devices. I'm highly skeptical that a they're going to "filter out" many N2 and CO2 molecules. No doubt it does "work" but is it really any different?

Robert Mondavi used a blender. I've just covered the top of a decanter and vigorously shaken.

And... can it really be hurried? Some think that removing the cork for a few minutes the night before and then recorking is best.

Many times I enjoy experiencing the wine evolve over a couple of hours and just pop and pour.

Bottom line is that wine toys are fun. If you like it, buy it!

Rosso di Montalcino has to take the top spot in best QPR. These are phenomenal for 15 euros before shipping.

Yeah, there's a ton of very affordable Rossos available. The problem is weeding through all the marginal stuff to find the good ones. But when you do, go buy a case of it.

My experience has been that the producers that make good Brunello tend to make good Rosso. There is also a good amount of variation among vintages which for me is part of the fun.

In SoCal safely south of the fires in Del Mar. My wife loves skin contact wines and at $50 a bottle and a 4.3 on Vivino this is the best brunch value in California.

Beautiful day. Light easy wine. Waterfront.

Tusk 2010 - leathery, tobacco, with dark fruits. Very concentrated, but broad with a long finish. Nose was amazing and very definitely PH. Decanted for 3hrs before the restaurant, but didn't really hit its stride until the end - about another 2hrs. Pretty amazing wine

SE 2nd 2012 - more narrow, floral. Red fruits, raspberry, little cocoa, long finish with a kick. It needs about a 5hr decant too.

Both were amazing and very different.
