My best spreads for Thanksgiving have been overseas with the Army.

They go all out

Thanksgiving Day 1968 I was in Vietnam, turkey and the other stuff was served during lunch. I was flying a 3:30 minute mission to deliver mermite cans of turkey and stuff to a few different sites. I didn't get any lunch.
Christmas was a bit better, but not much.

Best Thanksgiving Dinner was in the middle of the desert in the ME. We ate our fill and climbed on top of the tanks and relaxed.

I would imagine that you, as an aviator, got to eat lots of real meals that the grunts in the field did not. So......

Very true. But you don't really want a pilot who hasn't slept or eaten correctly in days would you? And in my 1 year tour I spent a bit over 5 months living in a GP Medium, sleeping on an army cot, showering under a POL bladder full of river water, and eating in an all ranks tent. But we did have beer after all, I mean we did have access to transportation to the closest PX. Alas, it was always the same temperature as the weather.

First of all, I truly want to say Thank You for your service. Vietnam was its own little hell that may will not understand.

The highlighted points above are just proving how much of a luxury you lived in compared to the average 11B. I am sure eating with the enlisted is still giving you nightmares.

Please realize this banter is all in fun.

Of course I realize it's all in fun, hell, I've been retired way longer than I was in. And nobody likes aviators in the Army until they need one. It's been that way since Bell invented the Huey and it'll never change.
