What an absolute wild take.

What are y'all's thoughts on this?

I'll preface this with saying I'm not a Trump fan in the slightest. I'm quite conservative but the cult of personality built up around him is problematic.

Having said that I took this as just another example of Trump rambling and rambling without giving any real thought to what he was actually saying. He probably had a well written speech sitting right in front of him but as he's such genius (in his own mind at least) he decided to go off script, again, and wing it. In actuality he probably has no real opinion to either of these medals as he's to self involved to care about things that don't directly impact him.

This is just example #2,335,767 of Glorious Leader opening his mouth and inserting his foot. The funny thing is, is that he could actually win in November if he had an ounce of self discipline.

Thanks for the perspective.

There's a reason why I moved the topic to the military board.

Less unhinged people

Are you saying F16 isn't a place of nuanced and balanced discussion where people engage in political debate in a mature and respectful manner? Blasphemy!

I'm of the opinion Trump can win. this race unless he says something incredibly stupid. This statement was a giant step in the wrong direction.

He's come out against POW's, too.

He's not as pro-military as many want to believe.

He's wrong to say they are equal.

Presidential Medal is supposed to be on merit, but is obviously political. Either given to someone "on your team", or given to a popular performer or celebrity, to burnish the reputation of the current POTUS.

Not going to insult this board by telling you about MoH

But what he is very clumsily saying is, the Presidential Medal is better for the recipient because they don't get wounded or killed to receive it.

Although being wounded or killed is not a requirement.

I often wonder what they taught the students in the military prep school (high school) he attended. He seems pretty ignorant as to military history, customs, etc.

Two lousy candidates this time, still better than the Democrat choice.

He can say practically anything, and millions will still support him. Case in point is Trump talked about putting detergent and UV lights in bodies to fight COVID. However, millions overlook that silliness and still support him.

I don't have a link but this is another case of Trump bumbling and stumbling through some comments in a press conference.

He had just received a briefing that had outlined the effectiveness of ultra violet light and bleach in fighting the spread of Covid as it lingers on surfaces. Trumps asked, in the briefing, were there studies conducted to address the possibility of adapting UV light and disinfectants for internal use. Which they actually have studied.

It was morphed into him stating that people should "drink bleach". Sort of like the urban legend of Palin supposedly saying, "I can see Russia from my kitchen".

True.

As I recall, he was talking about treatments where blood is removed from the body, sterilized, and put back in.

Of course, within minutes, the left was screaming that 'Trump told people to drink bleach'.

The onus is still on Tanker123 to prove his statement.

This ain't the Politics Board, where one can post nonsense and run away.

The "military prep" high schools don't have much to do with actual military training. They wear uniforms for parades, and the discipline cadre are usually former NCOs or retired majors, but they don't have any association with the US military and don't teach military history, tactics, etc. Imagine the Corps with only D&C cadoodles and no ROTC classes - and every student their has an 8-figure trust fund and is going to major in financial economics so they can go back home and make partner at Bain

I had a couple of NY Military Academy students in the West Point rising senior summer week (kinda like a week long Spend the Night with the Corps). Those kids were very polite, extraordinary aloof from middle class peons like those in the Army, and completely ignorant of any military experience beyond watching Paulie Shore's "In the Army Now". They called me "Mr. Last name" instead of "MAJ Lastname".

Edit: That's not just NY Military, it's all the exceedingly expensive prep schools - Valley Forge, Fork Union, etc. They're college prep schools, not military prep school

Thanks for the info. I guess I thought they'd at least be doing JROTC stuff. Perhaps they did, 100 years ago.

The only one I've even driven by is Camden M.A., in Camden, SC. The only thing the locals say is it's more like a place to send kids who mom and dad can't handle.

The criterion Trump uses to state the Presidential Medal of Freedom being more important because MOH recipients are often wounded or deceased is a tremendous insult to the military and the MOH recipients. He smiles as he said this. It's sickening. Now let's listen to President Reagan.

Just a thought that popped into my head. If I'm doing my math correctly, that speech was some 5 ish years after the fall of Saigon, and some 25ish years after we entered Vietnam in some official capacity. We're now 3 year post fall of Kabul, and 23ish years after we entered Afghanistan.
