How do you think the play will unfold? I believe the US and coalition allies will respond militarily and it will be a bloody afffair. I am envisioning operations at Taiwan and near it to include the whole Pacific Region.

It won't be pretty for Taiwan. They're 80 miles across by 225 miles long. And roughly 110-160 miles from the Chinese coast.

I'm not a military tactician, but I'd imagine China would attempt to take Taiwan as quickly as possible by use of lots of missiles, bombers, paratroopers, and possibly a beach landing. After that, it'll turn into guerilla warfare, as I believe the Taiwanese are anticipating this and training for it.

I think the US's best chance would be to prevent it instead of react to it. If intel suggests it's going to happen, perhaps park a destroyer or two between China and Taiwan. Keep a carrier strike group on the other Pacific side - close, but still a safe distance away.

If we actually go to war over Taiwan, I suspect you are correct. It would be a pretty bloody mess. Initial phase would probably be focused on limiting casualties for our overseas bases and our allies, while trying to deploy reinforcements. I think if we can amass enough troops, ships, and planes in Australia, Guam, and Japan, fast enough, China will eventually lose.

I think you are on the money. It would be a bloody affair and you alluded to the strategic bases in the Pacific Region. They will be key for logistics and force buildups. I will give you a B grade! But will elevate it to an A because you are not a tactician! lol

There aren't enough planes in the world to counter the Chinese IADS within the first island chain.

If China goes to take Taiwan, they will succeed and Taiwan will only be freed after years of fighting outside of the first island chain weakens China to the point non Chinese aligned forces can operate within the first chain.

There are several "what if" videos on YouTube.
When the truth comes out, do not ask me how I knew.
Ask yourself why you did not.

If we're going to try and intervene, the war will be fought in space (taking out GPS satellites), in the air by USN, USAF, and USMC fixed wing aircraft, and on/ under the sea surface by the Navy. Our ground forces will not deploy... and the war won't last that long. Biggest logistical issue will be resupplying our forces with missiles and torpedos. We're going to lose ships, aircraft, and people... conceivably the worst naval battles since WWII. Hope our Pacific allies can help.

Assuming it doesn't go nuclear...

Absolutely. We have forces spread out in the Pacific region, so there is a lot of space to maneuver. Another aspect is we are in China's backyard. The so what is our military can hit targets in China. They will have to use vast resources to defend the country.
