I don't know. I do know that the Commandant cancelled Birthday Balls for all of the active component in 2021 because of COVID. That was kind of cheesy (in my opinion) because the Marine Reservists across the country still held Birthday Balls because they were already back to a normal drill schedule.

What is the implication here? Taiwan or the Middle East?

MARCENT in Tampa is just the Marine component staff for CENTCOM HQ. They would be the advance party for a deployment of operating forces from I MEF or II MEF. The fact that they will be busy or absent two weeks from now suggests that CENTCOM has made a request for Marines to deploy. Interestingly, the CGs at I MEF and II MEF haven't canceled their Birthday Ball.

It's a mystic ritual we perform that correlates positively to achieving the recruiting mission. It might be worth a try.

It's from HEB?!

All this time I thought military cakes were baked exclusively by CW5's.

None that I can remember. We held "cake cutting "ceremonies" in Iraq.

That's what I thought. Pretty interesting they posted the message to Twitter for five minutes before taking down.

Yep, and luckily some local VFWs or whatnot where still doing them and Marines did attend...or not attend...right?

We had the birthday ball in Orlando last night with 750 attendees.

The oldest Marine was Sgt Elmer Hawkins, age 100. Elmer enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 13, 1942. He fought on Guadalcanal and was wounded there. He remembers being carried off the ship in Melbourne on a stretcher as the Aussies play Waltzing Matilda for 1st Marine Division which is the origin of why 1st MarDiv adopted it as their Division song. Elmer's father was also a Marine who fought at Belleau Wood. It's good to touch history whenever you get an opportunity.
