From the article linked in the linked article:

"We cannot say for certain what these missiles were targeting, but they were launched from Yemen, along the Red Sea, potentially towards targets in Israel," he said. "This attack may be ongoing, so if we have more information to share, we will."
Or Jeddah or Mecca or Neom or anywhere along The Line.
Without knowing what kind of missiles we're talking about, it's impossible to know what their target was but I would think 2,000 kms away would be a pretty healthy distance for a missile coming from Yemen, probably supplied by Iran.
I realize the Navy is saying the missiles were over water. To check the distance and likely flight path, check out the Great Circle mapper. For a quick example, plug in Sana'a Yemen to Tel Aviv or Jerusalem or wherever.
http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=SAH-TLVI found this list of Iranian Missiles which shows Iran having missiles that are capable of a 2,000 km range but, I don't know how good they are. I thought shorter ranges were more of Iran's specialty.
