Are CTs required to wear Winter As to hoops games? That's all you ever see on TV...and very few at that. Personally, I'm fine with them wearing outfit Ts and camo pants (called Cs&Ts back in the day) if it gets more there.

When I was "highly encouraged" to do basketball band, in the days of the FTAB doing it, we wore khaki pants and a basketball band polo to games.

At least we got to sit right next to the Aggie Dance Team.

Forcing cadets to wear a uniform to a basketball game is not very smart.

I want to go and relax in civies at Reed. Kyle Field is one thing but basketball is completely different.

We rotated between artillery and infantry band, black belt uniform were pink trousers, long sleeve khaki shirt with ties; white belts wore midnight and Aggie Band sweaters

Different times. But I am glad I was at A&M in those times.

i know when they Corps has gone in mass to WBB they wear fatigues and outfit tee shirt.

The ones i see at games and on TV in winter A are the ones shadowing the Yell Leaders, my guess is they are ones that will be put on the ballot for Yell Leaders

Just to offer an historical perspective:

I was at A&M in the Corps 1967-1971 and went to most of the conference games.

My memory is that cadets had to be in uniform to enter any building on campus except on weekends. The exception was the MSC: cadets had to be in uniform at all times. (I graduated over 50 years ago, so my memory may be wrong.)

Cadets had to be in uniform to go to basketball games. (Half the Band came to the conference games.)

(As an aside, cadets also had to be in uniform to go to any away games.)

Far from minding this rule, I loved it. I was very proud of being an Aggie in the Corps and wanted everyone to know I was in the Corps (as if the short haircut in the era of "hair gods" was not a giveaway!).

This was especially true when I became a junior and got to wear the midnight shirt, which I had been waiting to do for two years. I wore it every chance I had and probably went to some games just so I could wear it.

I remember what a treat it was to be sitting in Duncan listening to announcements and the speaker would announce an event and conclude by saying, "Midnights may be worn" followed by loud wildcats throughout the mess hall.

Different times. But I am glad I was at A&M in those times.

Anyone in winter As at a basketball game is in the process of running for the yell leader corps block imo

In my day we didn't have to wear uniform to basketball games unless it was a major unit level "march in" to a basketball game.

Everything OldArmy71 says is correct. Uniforms were required virtually everywhere and all the time. I was married my senior year and had a part time job on campus. I had a letter (Trigon?) authorizing me to wear civilian clothes instead of uniform as needed to my job.

These '71 guys know what they're talking about. My classmates did a good job of training them as fish. That uniform requirement was a pain in the rear when coming back to campus on a Sunday and wanting to check your mail.

On a totally unrelated subject. I'd like to hear your memories on what happened at the '69 Baylor basketball game at GRW.

I did not want to derail things even more by mentioning the issue you note, but yes, it was a pain not to be able to go to the MSC on Sundays unless you were in uniform. It is possible that some civvy-clad cadets snuck in and out to check their mailboxes, but who knows......

I remember that Baylor game vividly. I know we have discussed it a number of times, but here is my recollection:

During the second semester in 1969, I enjoyed the fact that we had a championship basketball team to root for to compensate for the football squad that had gone bottom up in the fall.

Though G Rollie White held only 7700 fans, the Corps and the Aggie Band could make a lot of noise when motivated.

Our most memorable game that year happened when Baylor came to town. Baylor had beaten us in Waco on a controversial issue with the time clock at the very end, so we were primed for revenge.

The game went well for us, and we were comfortably ahead with a couple of minutes left when an Aggie, Ronnie Peret, stole a pass and streaked down toward the north goal, intending to lay the ball in. As he jumped, a Baylor player, Tom Friedman, undercut him in a decidedly dirty move.

The Aggie trailing the play, Billy Bob Barnett, slammed into the Baylor player like a linebacker, knocking him into the stands under the goal where the Aggie football team, led by All-American Billy Hobbs, was sitting.

The football players later claimed to reporters and the college administration that they had been "protecting" the Baylor player and were merely "helping him to his feet."

The Corps threatened to storm the court and attack the Baylor bench, but the commander of the Aggie Band alertly ordered the playing of the national anthem. Everyone had to quiet down and come to attention, so order was finally restored.

I was a Fish in the spring of '69, attended that game, had a great view of the "action" and agree with the description of the event. Gig 'em!!
