Spent 8 years active duty. Decided to join the reserves immediately after grabbing that beautiful DD-214. Days after my eligibility opened up from the transition I got tagged to head off to a paradise known as Djibouti Anyone here have the 411 on this area?

This guy Bryan Suits who does Talk Radio in the Seattle area has deployed there as a Private Military Contractor. Not that you'd want to listen to all of his catalog of podcasts but you could probably contact him and have him talk about it on air.

In 2012 I was in Djibouti to build a counter-piracy training site at this place. We trained about 50 Djiboutian Coast Guard guys to assault a hijacked ship. $20 million State Department contract.

Back in my day (Vietnam, 1968-69) Reserves was a place to go to escape going overseas. Nowadays it's a sure ticket.
I haven't been personally but I have some friends that had a good time out at Lemonier.
No idea where the navy goes out there but the DFAC at HDAM is pretty solid for a deployed location.
Have been doing quite a bit of research. It seems like this is a fairly enjoyable deployment despite the heat. Civvies everywhere you go, MWR trips, good food, solid wifi, gyms, sporting events and so forth. Im a year from finishing my masters and it appears that this wont deter me. Still waiting for official orders to get an idea of the kind of work i'll be expected to do. Tax free zone and my company is offering me differential pay so i'll be able to come out on top on this one financially at least. Will see how it goes.

I did 9 months there in 18-19. I'm army national guard, we did forcepro so my experience was probably different than yours. It wasn't horrible, but I spent most of my time on the drone AF base nearby. Lemmonier wasn't bad at all
Had a friend spend a Navy reserves deployment to there.. He enjoyed. I believe he was in meteorology.

Amenities are good
O4 and up have private living with own bathroom (usually takes about a month of living like a peasant first)
Wardroom that has fullish bar (open 3-4 days per week)
Other place to drink (11D) open daily but mostly the enlisted crowd
Just getting off of a week alcohol restriction due to dumbassery at said location
Mwr trips
Can get off base without too much hassle
Zero Covid restrictions right now
Food not great
Amenities are good
O4 and up have private living with own bathroom (usually takes about a month of living like a peasant first)
Wardroom that has fullish bar (open 3-4 days per week)
Other place to drink (11D) open daily but mostly the enlisted crowd

N64 Asset Manager. I know little else aside from that. Official orders have not yet been provided. E6 with hope of putting on CWO2 in the next 2 years with my Masters. Shoulf be a shoe in for E7 if I decide to go instead of dropping the reserves. Would live to find a POC to speak to about my future role.

Got in contact with an IT1 who just arrived to N64. It looks like they are transitioning in and out of various divisions/departments to fill needs. Hopefully they can find a place to leverage my engineering skills out there. Would hate to get out there and find myself doing trivial work. Thanks for the POCs Mayor WestMayor West said:
