I was lucky to sit in on one of the sessions mentioned in this article. Some of the authors range from BN CDRs to young officers/NCOs. Stoney Portis is in on it too....some of you recognize the name from The Outpost, and I have a lot of respect for him and what he is currently studying to better our military.

Anyway, if you are still serving or have interest, this article talks about a lot of issues specific to women, but also happening with men. Not always a comfortable conversation, but a conversation that needs to happen.

I was in an MI battalion in the mid-late 70s where there was a programmed effort to maximize women's roles. In many instances it worked well (analyst, image interpreter). In roles requiring upper body strength it did not. Ultimately, warfare is still a physically intensive exercise. I know women have a military role, but assigning them to infantry or armor or even handling artillery is asking a bit much of them as a group. As far as hair styles, I frankly would like to see buzz cuts or flattops on ALL military members for safety, uniformity and hygiene.

I wonder if this is such a good idea...

Flat tops aren't a thing anymore for a lot of reasons. Fortunately strength and conditioning has come a long way in the last 40 years in addition to women throwing weight around alongside men. Go check out a CrossFit gym if you don't believe me. But as far as a "group" goes, that's a lot to ask of any group...but if the individuals can keep up, good for them and the team.

Why not? Are there no uniforms for pregnant women in the Air Force? Or is this for aircrewmembers who are still flying?

Air crew who are not in ejection seat aircraft can fly for a while. If it has an ejection seat, they are out on day 1.
