You're way late in some of your predictions. The Hullaballoo Pep Band that plays for A&M Basketball games already uses the same Band Hall that the Aggie Band uses. So do several other bands, orchestras, and symphonies. As mentioned earlier, we have the second largest music program on the country , with over 1200 students involved in various music ensembles on campus - most of which use the current Aggie Band Hall to rehearse. That includes the Hullaballoo Band.

As for your prediction about halftime performances, I'd be happy to refute that. The Aggie Band does football, the Hullaballoo Band does basketball. Period. There was a time, when I was in the Band, when the Aggie Band did both football and basketball. That changed several years ago, and its worked out fine for both organizations. That will not change.

Predict what you will. When I got back here after 31 years in the Army, there were many predicting the demise of the Corps. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Neither will the Hullaballoo Band marching at football game halftimes. Period.

Its MY RED LINE, TOO, WB74 (I was Maroon Band before we transitioned to Infantry and Artillery Band my Pisshead year). NOT ON MY WATCH. Period.

I'm sure everyone disagrees with one of the Commandant's decisions from time to time - that's how leadership works - but there's no question he's one redass sum*****.

Old army died when they started letting fish put gravel in front of their tents. Fill the quad and bring back the tents!

Similarly, I heard ol army died when they put wooden floors in the tents.

What will be done with the old Adams building?

That hasn't been decided yet, but if we get funding, we'd like to build a recreation center/athletic field in that location for all students living on that side of campus, including the cadets. Still a long way off, as we are still working on renovations of the dorms and the quad, but its something we have looked at as part of our Quad Master Plan.

We will let everyone know once a decision has been made concerning the Adams Band Building - and that won't happen until the new Music Facility is built. More to follow.

It seems to me the A&M President's home should be over on West side by President Bush's area; and the existing President's house given to the Commandant - that way he could be nearby for fun and games, etc...

To the Commandant (or anyone else with power to make a decision)

I have a great suggestion for the future.
While renovating the dorms add a 5th floor (or at least to some of them) so that there is extra space for the Corps to grow into if needed. It is much cheaper to do this while renovating anyway.

Just my 2 cents but I think it's a good idea.

All of the older dorms on campus are four stories because if they were taller than that they would have to have elevators because of ADA requirements. I believe, that is what I've heard before

Not hard to put in an elevator when renovating - you could control use by giving keys to people who need it - also mosher (I think in the commons) has 5 floors because of the basement

Adding a 5th floor to the dorms wouldn't be the trigger to add an elevator. Overall ADA compliance applies to every floor - however, I'm not sure why TAMU hasn't had to comply with accessibility issues during the renovation of the first 2 or 3 dorms. (Any pull with the Gov doesn't factor in 'cause ADA is a federal thing and not a state thing). Maybe a waiver pushed through by Facilities?

Besides, adding an elevator to each dorm is feasible, could be built on to the exterior (it's done all the time in updating schools). There's obviously a cost impact, but it's achievable.

Going back to the structural impact of adding a fifth floor - that can be done as well - any structural engineer could do some calcs to see if the existing structure could handle the load, or if some beefing up would be needed. Again - not impossible.

Wink04 is correct - it would be best to have good key control - the last thing you wantcadets to do is to ride and hide on the elevator all day long (probably be a white belt privilege) when they should bewhipping out to all the cadets on the first 4 stoops. (They still whip out, right?)

There are elevators in the new learning centers that service each floor, so yes the renovated dorms have elevator access.

Just an observation- bebopag1 says the Nonreg Hullabaloo band will eventually be performing at Kyle, the Commandant respectfully disagrees. But the Aggie Dance Team started out just at Reed for BBall games. Within a decade, however, they're now on Kyle for the team run out. How much longer until they're on the sidelines pumping their pompons next to the Yell Boys? If they made the jump from Reed to Kyle, why won't the Hullabaloo Band? New Army- making everything go to crap since 1877.

As a non-reg who played in Hullabaloo, I'm gonna jump in. I normally don't, and it's probably not advisable to do so, but whatever. I think this warrants a response.

None of us wanted to play at Kyle. Ever. If we did, we would have been in FTAB. I played because 1) I enjoy the heck out of playing, 2) I love Aggie sports, and 3) why the hell wouldn't I take the opportunity to combine 1 &2?! Most everyone (that was there in the years I played) respected the hell out of FTAB, myself included. Chris Hollar, the director of Hullabaloo, also has ZERO interest in Hullabaloo becoming a marching band, and I know he's also a fan of FTAB. Do you realize how many people have to basically be "removed" from the equation for anything like this to happen? Dr. (or Major, whichever you prefer) Rhea wouldn't have it, Hollar wouldn't have it, and we've already seen the Commandant basically say "over my dead body," and while I'm not all that knowledgeable about A&M's administration, I'd wager he swings a pretty damned big stick. And let's not even bring up logistics. It would be no small feat to make that change. And FTAB is a huge draw for games. Our Athletic Dept. is many things, but when it comes to money they are NOT foolish.

I don't know whose idea it was to put the girls out there. I don't like it either. Feel free to write the AD and show your displeasure. But please don't automatically attack a group that I had some great memories with, and don't think that all of "New Army" wants to see our beloved A&M go to hell in a handbasket. There are plenty of things to wring your hands about and be upset about (the cannon being a prime example), but this isn't one of them. They've been around 10 years now (God I feel old saying that), and FTAB's still the main band, the Corps is as strong as they've been in recent memory, and PJ Tucker is still dribbling (sorry, couldn't help myself).

Ok, the non-reg will shut up now.

Couple of observations -

BeBop is a rabble rouser from brown shoe days and often brings stuff up just to get a rise out of whoever will bite... True, some of his points need to be considered. He was the point for trying to maintain "the tunnel" in the North Zone (which did not happen), and the Reveille gravesites, and of course his nemesis - orange gatorade coolers...

Secondly, the ADA does NOT require ALL rooms be "accessible"... Even in a Hospital only a few of the beds are required to be accessible - typically 10%. Rooms on the ground floor can meet this requirement - albeit, there is an issue if the upper floors in a different outfit has a handicapped person.

Third. I did not realize the Corps accepted physically handicapped persons who cannot meet the standards to march, participate, etc?

Fourth. I hope the upgrades include air conditioning... We did not have it when I was in the Corps...
...and even an electric fan was a pi$$head privilege...

Several years ago, one of the Air Force outfits had a cadet who was blind. I noticed him during a march-in his fish year. He marched with his hand on the shoulder of the cadet next to him. Always in step, dress and cover. I watched for him every time I attended a game. To me he was inspirational. I was there for the first march in his senior year and saw that after his unit had passed in review, one of the bulls grabbed him and put him up on the reviewing stand with the reviewing officer.

First of all I am not a fan of the dance team at Kyle, but apparently that was because Sumlin wanted them there and apparently the logic is it helps with recruits to see pretty girls on the sidelines.
I'm not really even a fan of them at Reed and I was in a dance team in high school. They just do the same ridiculous dances over and over.

The Corps is a student organization at a state-supported college. You can't discriminate
