just curious about the term "smoked" and when it was introduced into Corps vocabulary.

I get that, but in the 80's the term used was "to crap out".

Crap out usually meant a group session, when we took all the fish out for a run or some such. Individual training was often called scr*wing the fish. But then, I started the A&M College in the last year before women in the Corps, so I can see how that usage went away.

On a side note Zoomie '11 daughter used the term "beat" as in we had a beating or we're going to beat the fourth classmen. There were a few helicopter parents who were afraid their darlings were getting pummeled with fists.

I believe "crap out" is unique to A&M, and "smoked" is used a lot in the military. Because of that, I suspect that "smoked" worked its way into the Aggie vocabulary, probably becuase of use by bulls, guys coming back from ROTC camp, prior service, etc.

I would say that it was a progressive after effect from Gulf War I. As mentioned before, returning Vets brought it into the vocabulary at A&M. Crap out was the common name while I was there but there was a use of "smoked" that was limited. I think it just built up over time after GW1.

My CSM in the 509th always used the term as getting "scuffed up". Had never heard it before I got there. I had never heard the term "crap out" until I got to A & M. Getting "smoked" is used in the Army.

We used it interchangeably but probably used smoked a bit more; I still refer to being smoked after working out and what not

Elim- "slayed" was not a term used while I was in during the mid 90's. That must be a rather new one.
