that makes them think it's agreat idea to claim they are a SEAL or Special Forces? I can't believe people really buy such outrageous claims, particularly journalists.

www.cortezjournal.com/article/20120128/NEWS01/701289955/0/COLUMNISTS18/Hunting-for-a-few-good-memories

quote:
Truitt served in the military as a Navy Seal and was wounded in the line of duty during seven tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It was a harrowing seven tours. He was shot 11 times. He was declared missing in action, twice a prisoner of war. Once he was MIA for two months and 14 days.

He was tortured and disfigured. He was shot in the stomach, requiring several feet of his intestines to be removed. His tattooed skin is covered in scars. He has vision in only one eye.

But he never entered a combat situation that he didn’t want to.

“I’ve been through a lot, bro,” he said bluntly. “It’s kind of hard to talk about.”

Edit: since the original article was taken down, this is a pic of the dbag:

Update: the NRA is none to happy about being scammed:

quote:
Marc Steinke, a representative for the National Rifle Association, said that there are a lot of people in shock, and there will be consequences.
“We’re getting it sorted out at NRA headquarters. It’s nobody’s fault but Truitt’s. There will be lawyers involved. Penalties will have to be paid,” he said.

Said he's been seperated for 6 years... so if he got out in 2006, how'd he rack up 7 tours?

If they just stuck to a realistic lie they'd be fine.

If you're going to fake it you might as well fake your balls off.

I would support legislation saying that anyone caught impersonating a member of the US Armed Forces must fight a cage match against a person of the unit they pretended to be part of.

Basically, I'd love to see this punk with a soul-patch and reading glasses get dismantled by a SEAL.

The dude with the soul patch probably spent >$1000 on that get-up. Why? And if you're going to fake it, why not at least put your fake awards in the correct order? Do these people want to get caught?

If I recall, soul patch guy is a big gay rights guy in Houston. One wonders if that were some sort of anti-military "statement". "AF" guy IIRC showed up in that outfit for his stepson's boot camp or other graduation. Probably would have been ignored, except he gave some SGT. some lip that got him arrested. I suspect mental illness.

On a related note, I heard this feminine daily cleansing product in a bag speak at a gathering. He was darn convincing, and fooled a lot of people who should have known better.

I was not suspicious of him at the time, mainly because there were a lot of vets in the room at the time who believed him and had asked him to speak. These included retired CPOs, WWII to OIF guys, and at least one retired O-7.

Heck, I was so impressed, I even posted about it here. The story at the time was that the MOH was still being processed and some details were still secret due to security concerns.

Yeah, I know, red flags all over the place.

Sorry Ryan. I recall that the pics were from the Houston mayor's party.

I put two and two together and came up with eleventy-six.

My apologies.

EDIT: I was, however, correct in my assessment.

Houston Chronicle
quote:
Instead, his dress at the 2009 gathering at George R. Brown Convention Center for the city's first openly gay mayor was a political statement, he contends in documents filed in federal court this week.

McManus was recognizing a triumph for gay rights as well as making a commentary about the military's policy on gays, including his own personal battle while in the service, he argues in a motion filed by his lawyer, James Fallon.

"Mr. McManus wore an Army uniform and medals to the mayor's victory party in order to protest both his discharge from the Army and the continuing exclusion of (lesbian gay, bisexual and transgender) Americans from the military under Don't Ask Don't Tell."

That corporal has about 35 things wrong that stand out immediately, such as a corporal in SF. And I'm neither a 1SG nor SF.

More on the "AF" guy. Linkeroonie

Guy apparently served, made it up to E-4 before he became a druggie and got bounced.
quote:
Mr. Give Me Another Badge, I Want Another, USAF MSgt Nickolas J. Androsky, showed up for a graduation ceremony at Fort Benning (Sand Hill), on Wed, 15 Jun 2011, wearing the uniform with 15 rows of awards and decorations, and 7 badges from the Army and Air Force. He was there to see his stepson graduate from training (I am unaware of type of training) and is married to a 54 year-old--Androsky is supposedly a 33-year old. Also, Androsky served in the the AF from 1999-2006, in the 41st Airlift Squadron and was discharged as an E-4. Upon arrival, Androsky reportedly complained to the unit leaders that he was disrespected by unit personnel and that is where Androsky found himself scrutinized. After questioning, the Benning MP's happily escorted him off base....

from Shadowspear, the actual individual that spoke with MSgt Dufflebag states, "Last night at 1830 or so, I'm chewing over the boss's Concurrent TNG Guidance, when this guy - he wants to speak to the CSM about a DS disrespecting him...," Oh yes. This walked into my Battalion HQs, also wearing a Green Beret with his pants bloused into desert boots. Claims he was authorized everything he's wearing, and spent 8 years in USAF before being medically retired (you know, from wounds and all...). Notice the poopy-face; the outcome was not what he expected. He was given a free ride in the back on an MP patrol car."

No need to apologize Canyon - I have to defend the community's reputation.

McManus was a super d-bag. I was at Annise's party that night and remember seeing the guy, thinking he was trying to be funny or something. It was so ridiculous to see in person and watching people react to him was hilarious.

There was legislation called the Stolen Valor Act. It was deemed an unconstitutional abridgement of freedom of speech IIRC.

The three things that immediately scream fake are the following:

1. ANY shoulder patch worn on the ASU

2. Airborne school with no unit patch underneath it

On the ASU, you don't wear patches on the shoulders. If you have a ranger tab or SF tab, you wear a metal pin on badge on the left pocket.

I knew a tabbed SF'er who was a corporal. I knew him as a SSG first but that's a longer story.

I'm not sure if it's possible for even a druggie to make that type of backward movement in today's Army.

A few years ago, I turned a guy who loudly proclaimed his feats of fearless derring-do as a SEAL into an outfit called veriseal.org (no longer in business), and it was its own reward.

When veriseal got back to me and confirmed this guy was a fraud, I did the right thing and merely told two (2) people what I'd done- word spread pretty rapidly thereafter, and seeing Homey have to backtrack from his tales of bloody valor & legerdemain was a beautiful thing Turns out the guy was a former PN3!

Let's not forget this guy.
http://www.theeagle.com/am/A-costly-mistake2010-06-26T22-29-29
"...'One well-thought-out mistake'

Kemos' most brazen deception was his ex-SEAL claim. Officials say he has no military service.

It's unclear exactly when the lie started, but Nunn, who had known Kemos since the early-to-mid 90s, said he never heard Kemos make the claim, and was surprised when he saw it the first time Monday as he read a story e-mailed to him about the resignation.

However, at Texas A&M -- known for its military history and its reverence toward veterans -- Kemos mentored prospective SEALs, told detailed stories about his supposed exploits during his time with the elite fighting unit, and in April even spoke at a dinner for cadets about ethical dilemmas he faced while he was a SEAL, students said in interviews with The Eagle....

And this article from Navy News:

Penalties for lying about military service and/or injuries in combat can be applied after death. Remember the case of M. Larry Lawrence, former Ambassador who was disinterred from Arlington amidst the furor when it was learned he had lied about serving on a Merchant Marine Vessel during WWII.
