Do those of you who served in the military feel disrespected when a civilian yells something like Hoorah during any sort of activity like sports or a mud run.

I ask because someone kept telling my uncle this while we were running a Tough Mudder and that he better stop it or else. My uncle then revealed that he served in the Marines for 15 years. The man in question then apologized and explained that Tough Mudder's advertising video showed random people yelling Hoorah and that he said it was insulting and that military people should only watch out for each other and that civilians should have to fight their own wars.

So does someone yelling military yells make you feel disrespected?

Saying "oorah" or whatever is not the same as claiming you were in the military

One last thing. Don't put down our allies. They have been with us through several conflicts and have fought and died for many of the same things. My great uncle served in World War 2 and was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge in late December 1944. In an escape led by several British soldiers, my great uncle made it back to American lines 2 months later. My family is indebted to those who organized the escape and thankful that we Americans can depend on other countries to give us aid in our time of need.

Who can argue with logic like that?

My recommendation: Ignore and avoid this guy. "Roid rage is written all over his attitude.

I posted some pictures of some cool high speed stuff I did while with Rudder's at A&M, like the winter FTX and what not, on facebook once. A lot of my friends from high school started commenting, saying how that looks cool and stuff, and then this Marine I went to high school with started to comment. The guy was about 6 months out of boot camp, and he was like "that's nothing, he's not even in the military" and similar comments even though I or my friends never said I was. And then a little bit later he apparently got to yell at NROTC cadets during their summer cruise and he came over to my facebook page and started talking about how he made some of them cry and what not.

My point, like others above have mentioned, is that it's often times the people that haven't done anything that feel the need to exaggerate what they have done, and make sure everyone knows it.

His parents definately dropped him on his head a few times from the looks of it.

I've got another question, not sure if I should start another thread, but to those who have been deployed, do you feel different once you come back? Do you feel like you've changed? Worse or better?

Forgive me if this is too intrusive.

OA, I can only speak of peace time deployments. After a quick stop in Thailand, yes I was changed. What has been seen cannot be unseen!

The 'hooah' BS is a relatively modern military phenomenom, not anything I remember from back in olden times. Kinda reminded me of HUA which was a term for Head Up Ass. Mexican 'gritos' for 'ahua' was also something semi-related.

Some kid saying that only DD214 types get to use a word or phrase kinda misses on why they served. Wasn't about words.
